Introduction:
Text type + year -> context -> setting Narrative voice Characters Author + date published Relation and/or significance of the extract to the overall plot / characters / theme / setting Author's pragmatic (fancy word for author's purpose) Writer's style Intended audience -> then AND now (it is always good to show different perspectives from different times) Introduce themes 1 and 2 (NOTE: i separated my two main points via theme so that i can "zoom in" to my analysis from a broad idea such as theme to a more specific one such as stylistic device. it just gives a better flow to your speech, but you can use anything for your idea 1 and idea 2)
This is the layout for each theme / idea that you are going to analyze further:
State theme / idea Give example of stylistic feature (linguistic or structural) Author's pragmatic in using this feature How does this feature add meaning to the text? What is the effect on the reader? Alternative point (maybe there's a double meaning to the quote you picked...ALWAYS give alternatives! examiners like depth of analysis) Link back to theme / idea Then repeat this "paragraph" structure min. twice per main theme / idea so that you have four distinct analyses overall
Conclude by summarizing how author uses stylistic features to convey the main themes / ideas u chose A good concluding sentence that can be used is "the presence of (theme / idea) within the extract makes it a crucial event / turning point / pivotal component because it highlights the characters / plot / setting / etc..."
