Good answer I can think of nothing that would stand in the way of your performing in this position with excellence. Everything in my background shows that I have both the qualifications and a strong desire to achieve excellence in whatever I take on.

Bad answer

I was a topper in the marketing paper…in the internals.

Average answer I was the topper in the class in the last semester.

Good answer Because there is a perfect overlap between your needs and my requirements…

Conceptual questions What is the difference between marketing and sales?

Bad answer For me, there is no difference. It all sounds the same to me!

Average answer Sales is about selling, marketing is about….

Good answer Sales is just one part of marketing. Marketing is the core function of which sales is an end result.

Situational questions • You are a marketing executive in an FMCG company. You procured a custom order of a large quantity from a client. Now due to certain constraints, the company has withdrawn the order. What would you do in this situation?

Bad answer I don’t want to sell an obscure product in the market. I will ask my manager to give me a well known product to sell.

Average answer Maybe good advertisements … I will make it more known to the public…

Good answer Any product that comes in the market is not very well known right from the start. It is a challenge for the marketing team to create a buzz around it. Right customer focus and the right medium of advertisement will be important to create awareness about the product.

Situational questions • As part of your annual budget commitment you committed a certain budget to the management. Now, you have overshot your budget by 30%. How would you explain it to the management?

Bad answer Give me more money…!!!

Average answer Convince the management to support the budget overshot.

Good answer A budget overshot cannot happen overnight. So, the analysis should be done? Why has it happened? Has the budget overshot happened on a single project or on a multitude of project? After answering these questions, I will present the facts to the management and present with the course of action.

Ethical • How would you manage a situation where you believed that something was not in compliance with professional ethics? Have you ever faced such situation? If so, tell me more about it.

Bad Answer • I don’t know exactly…. Anyway I’m not interested in any questions and everything what happens in the company… and I don’t have any professional principles… I don’t have any principles at all…it’s borrring…

Average Answer • I will act according company’s code of ethics… but I prefer avoid such situations, in order to avoid troubles with HQ. I just want to work and earn money for my family.

Good Answer • I am reliable, confident, and courageous enough to initiate decisions and take relevant actions if something violates professional ethics. So you can count on me.

Ethical • What would you do if you a saw a valued customer behaving in an unethical manner?

Bad Answer Nothing. But if he irritates me I WILL SHOW HIM REAL UNETHICAL BEHAVIOUR… he will regret …

Average answer I’ll make a remark to him, or slightly hint at his unethical behavior. But I wouldn’t exceed a border of politeness.

Good Answer I’m sure that such respectable company as yours doesn’t have such clients. In other case I’ll be act according to my manager/boss instructions.

Bad Answer • Keep thinking…

Average Answer • 543 seats ..so approximately 15 candidates per constituency, so should be around 8000..

Good Answer • We may have to use Google to find out this answer<preferably give website/document name>
