Soldering Best Practices: Typical soldering iron temperature is 600⁰F (315⁰C). ALWAYS make sure to keep the soldering iron OFF when not in use. ALWAYS keep soldering iron IN HOLSTER when not in use. Only use soldering iron to apply solder. Only apply solder on specified locations (surface mount pads, through-hole and cabling)

Figure 3: Through-hole Soldering

There is leaded solder (solder containing lead) and non-leaded solder (solder not containing lead). THESE SOLDERS DO NOT MIX! Most common soldering is surface mount soldering (soldering components directly onto soldering pads on printed circuit boards). Most common soldering components:  

Capacitor – typically beige in color. Measured in pico-Farads (pF). Resistor – Typically green/black in color. Measured in Ohms (Ω). Decimal places are not typically printed on resistors and instead are replaced with the letter R (e.g 4.5 k Ω resistor would be “4R5K”). Inductor – typically blue/cool colors. Measured in nano-Henry (nH). Colored dots indicate the type of inductor. https://www.coilcraft.com/colrcode.cfm

  

Transistor – Semiconductor device used to limit/regulate current/voltage within a circuit. Highly sensitive to heat. Do not maintain long soldering iron contact with transistors. Operational Amplifier – Made from transistors. Used to amplify, regulate, or invert input voltages/currents. Highly sensitive to heat. Contact soldering iron conservatively. Terminals/Connectors – Used to transmit current into/out of a printed circuit board (PCB).

Soldering standards are IPC standards https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPC_(electronics) History of Invivo (found in 1986): 3600 SW 47th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32608 

 

Company that makes MRI coils (the electronics that connect to the MRI magnet allowing a computer to retrieve signals from the magnet and produce an image). o MRI Coils are mainly electronic cables, PCBs, and Baluns that operate in the radio frequency signal bandwidth (RF Bandwidth) Invivo also makes imaging software/hardware to view the images. Owned by Philips Electronics. o Philips Electronics is an international company based in the Netherlands.
