Technology Tigers: Enrollment Key password for Technology Tigers: flatworld 1. Jason is going totally paperless this year in his World Culture classes. His class will take place in the basement lab. All of his reading assignments, handouts, and homework will be digital. A calendar will be posted on-line with the syllabus. Will use Google Aps through March($10/yr for 50 students) for written homework assignments. 2. You are a teacher if in upper right hand corner a button is present turn editing on. Can switch role to student to see what students see. 3. Arrow button moves things around 4. Hand button editing 5. X button deletes (It is final) 6. Eyeball will turn things on and off 7. Can add and take away blocks. (Note to self: Make a list of sites on left side and link from site to site. Make a Web Toolbox: google, gmail, google documents, bubbl.us, voice thread, youtube, teacher tube, slideshare) For younger students preselect tools and sites as not expected to preselect until seniors. 8. When adding tags DO NOT DELETE ADM OR PEOPLE. Arrow sends tag to left side of screen. 9. Version 2.0 Moodle coming. Has lots of new features, but not available yet. 10. Number of Weeks critical, but topics format is important If you use for weekly lesson plans set time for 42 weeks. 11. To limit enrollment change enrollment key passoword. 12. Availability: Keep guest access off.
13. Do not change force language “from do not force” 14. Moodle uses English spellings—that’s why spellings look wrong. They are working on American spellings. 15. When making groups remember it does work well with wikis. 16. Make CD’s of instructional lesson 17. When adding word document, go to adding a new resource and find file, make a file and add. (look at video on his site for a how-to) To share with students they must use word, powerpoint, or excel. Word isn’t the best as they have to download and isn’t standard on all computers. Create documents using document readers (www.pdfcoke.com) --get accountif you don’t have one. 18. Usually uses pdf files, but will take powerpoint, word, etc. Make private as will protect from others. Once document is downloaded, anyone can view with internet access once they’ve been given access. 19. To embed on Moodle page copy and paste embedding html under embed. Go to your moodle page, click add a resource, name the new link and paste the copied html from embed page and then save. Link will be available to students from any computer. 20. To put purchased copyrighted visual pages on net without making it available to general population make it private. Use government documents as they are free and safe. 21. doc stock more for book to publish and want to sell—can also be used for maps. 22. Copyright is an issue, so instead of making 30 copies on a DVD instead create a video and audio file If you create a MP3 file it can be listened to on Moodle. 23. Downloaded info goes onto Helena’s server. 24. Hulu is a site where TV puts streamed shows.
