John-Nicholas Furst 10/23/08 American Medical Association a. The American Medical Association (AMA) is a member of the American
Medical Political Action Committee. The AMA targets Congress and Federal Bureaucracies such as the health and human services department. b. The AMA wants to promote the art and science of medicine and the
betterment of public health. The association is also known for its lobbying against spurious medical malpractice cases. They capitalize on the lobbying techniques that include involving students and physicians in their lobbying efforts. They focus their lobbying through the legislative branch for they have found they are very successful with making policy in congress as they are with stopping and blocking legislature that they do not support in congress as well. c. The AMA helps medical doctors aid their patients by uniting physicians
nationwide to work on the most important professional and public health issues. The AMA decides its policies on medicine and public health practices through its democratic policy making process in its own House of Delegates. The AMA also publishes its own code of medical ethics. This section is fundamentally divided into two different sections. The first being the principal of medical ethics. This establishes what they consider to be the core ethical principles of the
entire medical profession. The other half is the Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs. By having responsible policy making procedures, the AMA has found its outlet in Federal Bureaucracies to push its policies.
