ANSYS 11 ON VISTA Installation Procedure - Ansys v11 SP1 on MS Windows Vista 64 & 32 Ansys 11 SP1 is the first version of Ansys that supports Windows Vista 32 and Vista 64 (though some minor modification are required to run the FlexLM license server). Open the ANSYSV11SP1 using PowerISO and run setup.exe which is located in the root directory of the ISO file. Don't worry about setting up the license file at the end of the main program installation process. This will be done later. In the MAGNiTUDE folder, move a110sp1_calc.exe to the desktop and run it. You will be prompted by the command line to have the program create a license file. Answer yes. The cracked license file will appear on the desktop (license.dat). Move the license file to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing You can also create a log file in this same location at this time. This step is not required, but may prove useful. The log file will be used by FlexLM. You can call it log.txt (C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\log.txt. Now you are ready to set up FlexLM. The version of LMTools included with ANSYSV11SP1 did not work on my system. I downloaded up to date versions of key components for MS Windows 32bit from the Acresso website: http://www.globes.com/support/fnp_utilities_download.htm There are three files you will need lmgrd_i86_n3.exe,lmutil_i86_n3.exe, lmtools_i86_ne.exe I found that you can also download current FlexLM licensing components directly from Ansys, but I haven't tested these at the time of this writing. Save the new FlexLM components to the appropriate directory locations. The license manager daemon (lmgrd), the license manager utility (lmutil) and the license manager tools (lmtools) all go in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\intel. Make sure you use the new LMTools to start the license server. Launch LMTools (right click and run as administrator). Select "Configuration using Services" under the Service/License File tab. Note that important license information (Hostname) appears under the "System Settings" tab. Also your FlexID should appear as the first Ethernet Address (this is the Mac ID for you machine). Under the "Config Services" tab, set the correct paths to the license manager

daemon (lmgrd.exe) which should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\intel (remember to select the correct lmgrd, i.e. lmgrd_i86_n3.exe). Make sure the path to your cracked license file is correct (C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing). At this time, you can also establish the path to the log file you created earlier (C:\Program Files (x86)\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\log.txt). Make sure "Start Server at Power Up" and "Use Services" are both checked. Save your service. Under the "Start/Stop/Reread" tab, you should see the new service you just saved. The default is called "ANSYS FLEXlm license manager". Click "Start Server" to turn on the license server on your host machine. You can confirm lmgrd is running using the Task Manager (right click in the toolbar). Make sure all processes for all users is selected. Note that the license manager daemon is x64n6lmgrd.exe not lmgrd.exe. You can now launch Ansys and Ansys Workbench.
