UNIVERSIDAD DE PLAYA ANCHA FACULTAD DE HUMANIDADES EARLY ENGLISH TEACHING PRACTICE 2009 OBSERVATION STAGE Name of student teacher: Camila Soto Alarcón Name of School: Colegio Esperanza Number of students: 38 and 45 Date: 12-05-09 Class: 1º Medio A y 4º Medio A Task Nº1: The school The school is located in the center of Quilpué so it is no difficult to get there for the majority of the students. In the school there is , a general inspector , a person in charge of UTP and there are 7 more inspectors that take care of students when they are in their free time, etc. The population of students is approximately of 1000. Some of the schools rules are: in terms of appearance not to have long hair, or painted nails in girl cases, and to wear the uniform when it is necessary and the sport uniform only when the students have Physical Education. They are not allowed to drink or smoke in the school. If they are late they should come with a letter from their parents to know why they were late, students should get to school on time if not they have to wait to the next class and while they wait they must go to the library and read a book or do homeworks, etc. Task Nº2: The classroom The atmosphere of the room is very quiet, of course students talk with their classmates but when they have to work they do it quietly and motivately. There is a good distribution of students seats, there are enough for everyone and quite big for what a student need. The classroom is very spacious because some classes are very big in number of students so they need a lot of space. The board is in the front of the classroom and it is very big so everyone can see it, no one would have any problem in seeing what the teacher is writing. In the classroom you can find the basic equipment like chairs, tables and the board but if you need a data or a television to work an inspector will bring it to the classroom without problem. Task Nº3: The teacher The teacher enters the classroom and wait to everyone put their coats to say hello, then she has to read a reflexive book that is a routine of the school to leave a thought for the day. Then she calls the role and after that she starts teaching what she has prepared for the class. Sometimes she does works that students have to handed in at the end of the class so this way she knows for sure that their students will work, these works have

percentage and at the end of the semester she obtains a grade from all the works the students have done. She does some exercises on the board and students have to go to the front and complete them and the rest of the class also helps so they work together. She uses the book that the students have been ask to take and also complements what she teachs with her own books of exercises, photocopies and listening exercises. Task Nº4: The learners The learners are motivated, because they like english and they aslo like they way that the teachers teachs the subject. They also take part in their own learning, bringing the homeworks done and going out to the board when they are asked, etc. They are not expecting the teacher to do the work for them , they know how the teacher is and that they have to work ny their own. They like to work in groups and they are very responsible at the moment of doing it they know that if they are allowed to work in groups is because the teacher trust them and she knows that everyone will finish their work. The students love when they have to go to the board to complete the exercises the teacher does, because they work all together as one. The things that they like the least is when they have to handed in a task for the end of the class because they have no other option than do the work.
