HUE DESTINATION HUE CITY
Located on the country’s central coast in Thua Thien Hue province, the area has variety of sites of outstanding nature beauty. The beauty of the area led it to be chosen as the capital by the kings of the Nguyen dynasty. it was recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site. Hue also features a unique cuisine, combining dishes associated the former imperial court with everyday street food, much of fairly spicy. The city is also noted for the quality of its embroidery, particularly on the traditional ao dai- a favorite souvenir for visitors to take home. THE CITADEL
Built over thirty years in the early part of the 19th century, the Citadel encompasses three courts covering a total of 6 km. The Imperial City was the country’s administrative centre. senior mandarins, court officers and civil servants would have entered by the Ngo Mon. at the heart of Imperial City was the Forbidden Purple City. Inside were various palaces and the Emperor’s private. THE MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITIES
It is housed in the ancient Long An temple. it contains an interesting collection of assorted memorabilia from the day of Empire. LANG CO BEACH
70 km south of the city. Lang Co beach is famous for its grand natural landscapes, being embraced with row on row of the Truong Son mountain range, the tranquil blue sea and velvet like white sandy beach with sunshine. Y THAO GARDEN HOUSE
The 1,300 square meter garden of the Y Thao garden house was constructed fifty years ago. the owner has maintained the integrity of most of the garden and added some distinctive elements, notably a traditional dining room and two interesting antique collections. DONG BA MARKET
This market is strongly recommend to anyone with an interest in Vietnamese food or culture. The maintenance of ancient characteristics makes an unforgettable impression to visitors. Dong Ba Market is near the eastern corner of the Citadel. NAM GIAO ESPLANADE
Sacrificial Esplanade is the last and only holy place remains in its original status where worshiping and praying the god for golden crops and nationwide peace were taken
THIEN MU PAGODA 7 km west of the centre, this pagoda was built in the 14th century in honor of redrobed goddess, according to the legend, the people around this area used to see a vision of an old lady appearing on the hill where the pagoda now sits. upon seeing the people, she always said that somebody a great leader would built a pagoda at this site to bring peace to the country. One day, when Lord Nguyen Hoang passed by this area, upon hearing the story, he ordered the construction of the pagoda in 1601. THUAN AN BEACH Thuan An is a very enjoyable place for all tourists after a full day to visit Citadel, mausoleums, pagodas and Hue scenery... Thuan An is also the place where Hue people gather to enjoy the fresh air and sea-bathing in summer time. BACH MA NATION PARK 50 km south of Hue. In 1932 the area was discovered by Monsieur Girard, a French engineer, who had the ambitious plan to develop a holiday resort in the mountains. In the following years, a village including 139 villas was create near the summit. For accommodating holidaymakers and to avoid commuting on the steep, 17 km long road to the next mayor town, there were even a post office, a market, and a hospital. After the French left Vietnam in 1945, the hill resort was soon forgotten and the remains some of these buildings are now being smothered by the returning jungle. HAI VAN PASS 80 km south of the city. It usually looks like an overcast day at Hai Van pass, one of the most scenic hillside roads in Vietnam. This is also a place where the cold front from China meets the warm front from southern Vietnam. HUE’S ROYAL TOMB The Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945) is the last of Vietnam’s Royal families. In all, there were 13 kings, however, due various reasons, only seven had tombs. The seven imperial tombs were planned and constructed in hilly region southwest of the Citadel: Gia Long, Minh Mang, Thieu Tri, Tu Duc, Duc Duc, Dong Khanh and Khai Dinh. all tombs were constructed during the reign of the respective kings for which they were named. each tomb was laid out with statues and monuments in perfect harmony with one another to form a poetically natural setting. Six royal tombs are scattered across land to the south east of the Citadel on the other side of Huong river and one the same side. They are monuments to nine of thirteen rulers of the Nguyen Dynasty, mostly built during the Emperor’s lifetime. Although designed individually, sometimes by the intended occupant himself, they share certain design conventions. SINH VILLAGE WRESTLING The wrestling competition takes place on the 10th day of the 1st month of every lunar year. During this day, every year after the Tet holiday the villagers of the Sinh village come to the temple to worship the ancestor (founder) of wrestling art "chop trees to have wood, saw wood to make the scaffolds" at a place just at the left of the Lai An market. This wrestling competition of Sinh village is a beautiful way of respecting and propagating the tradition of respecting the spirit of martial arts that has been developed by their ancestors and has been an important part of their culture for the past 6 centuries. CAU NGU FESTIVAL On the eve of the Cau Ngu Festival, the entire village makes offerings and rituously worship Truong Quy Cong. This is accompanied by the "fish worshipping ceremony" where people pray for peace and for abundant growth of fish. At an
interval of three years, games representing sea fishing activities are held which includes the "fish catching" game and "net-casting" game. It may be mentioned here that the "net-casting" act is a form of amusement which is accompanied by rituals to honor the merits of the village spirit. After these games, people generally go to watch the rowing boats. HON CHEN TEMPLE RESTIVAL The festival begins with a procession referred to as the God Welcoming ceremony; as it is believed that this particular ceremony brings all the worshipped Gods from the village's temples and shrines to the communal house where various rituals are performed, including the procession in honor of Saint Mother Thien Y A Na. The fact that the procession takes place at night under the moonlit sky adds to the magnificence of the celebration. For the procession a long line of boats are bound together into bigger rafts and set sail on the Perfume River shining with myriad of lights.
