REVIEW OF INFERNAL AFFAIRS When we talk about the gangster films of Hong Kong ,we can easily come up with many classic works and film makers,like John Woo ,his film is always gull of nuttiness , handsomeness, chic and pigeons .Johnnie To , The young and dangerous series ,which is directed by one of the two directors of today’s topic film . But the blooming time of Hong Kong’s cinema has long gone . however by the year of 2002 ,the playing of Infernal Affairs bring the market out of gutter At least for a period . Let’s first take a look at the producing list and the cast, most people can’t help marveling , absolutely an all-star list .But after watching ,you will be more satisfied to find out that the trilogy is more than a star studded spectacle What you will experience is an edge of your seat , soul and the distinctive perception of two different colliding world .The two characters struggled all the way to find a way out , but they can’t ,cos they are in the last floor of the hell, and why it’s so terrifying ,because it’s continuous , permanent ,The torture is endless just like Prometheus ’s destiny . As a marvelous trilogy, there are so many remarkable scenes in it , while I’d just like to choose two of them to go into. Of course they are my favorite ones The first clip I’d like to show you is the death of Huang Sir. Tony Liang in this clip is totally astonishing , his natural movement , the expression in his eyes are definitely to reach everyone’s heart , when the music full of sorrow turns out , we all see his sadness, pain , his shock , his confusion and even his desperation .From Emily’s introduction we’ve already known that there’re only two persons in the world knowing about 陈永仁’ s real identity , One is the headmaster of the police academy , the other is 黄 sir, When the headmaster died , the truck carrying his remains passing by , we see 陈 永 仁 saluting to the motorcade ['məʊtəkeid] in secret, in his eyes there’s a combination of sadness ,respect but not so complex as this ones , 黄 Sir is not only 陈永仁’ s supervisor ,but also his friend ,his mentor, and the last person knowing who 陈永仁 really is . he’s now dean , all in such a sudden , .NOW no one can be more isolated than 陈永仁 , living in the world no one knowing who you really is, that fact should have driven anyone mad .the helpless and the sad acting make the scene so touching . It’s well acknowledged that the investment of the film is big, but an interesting fact is that the big budget (40 million HK $ ) isn’t spent in the huge action scenes or eye-candy CGI, Infernal Affairs is more like an psychological thriller , with little violence and martial action , instead we study the complex characters and the choice they face .So when climax ['klaimæks]comes , it’s not fierce gang fighting scenes ,it’s on the rooftop . People say both 陈永仁 and 刘建明 are essentially good men , I ‘m afraid I can’t agree , 陈永仁 is , actually he is more than essentially , he’s obviously , but 刘建明， I don’t think so . He said he wanted to be given a chance to be good guy, because at first he had no choice , while , on the contrary , I suppose that 陈 永 仁 is the one who had no choice ,as a bastard of a gang’s boss , he become a undercover cop to prove his loyalty to the justice . meanwhile 刘 建 明 joined the gang for the gang

boss’s woman . but later I think 刘 really enjoys the fame , the comfort , and the stable life the position brings him, so he want to be like that forever .and also the inner turmoil ['tə:mɔil] caused by living in a lie is no longer tolerable for 刘 , the inner turmoil reach a highest point after 陈永仁’ s death , finally it causes physiological problems schizophrenia [,skizəu'fri:niə] , deep in his heart he regards himself as 陈永仁 , I think it’s actually because he id jealous of 陈 , like 陈 said , he can be spotted, but 刘 can’t . We say that 陈永仁’ s life is a disaster , but he still had the headmaster , 黄 sir, May, Dr. Lee ,then 刘建明’s life is 24/7 bad , no truly friends ,no truly lover , lied to every one , and lie to himself . The trilogy of infernal affair is a complete epic, overrate it may ,but it really worth of watching and studying ,if you haven’t watched it, then you shouldn’t miss it .
