ICT Across the Curriculum History Year 9 The Task Produce Certificates of Remembrance to honour our former students who were killed in the First and Second World Wars. Their names are recorded on the Stanley Technical School war memorial. The Process •

Look up their names on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website •

Record the information you find and make sure your findings are relevant. • •

Research and add more details, images and stories to your Certificates. •



Plan, prepare and produce your Certificates in Microsoft Publisher.

Make sure that your Certificate is suitable for the target audience.

Write an account of what you did and your views on the website that you researched. The Assessment

You will be assessed according to the ICT National Curriculum Levels. These will be recorded by your teacher for your end of year report.

Found one name on the CWGC database and saved the generic certificate from the site. Copied and pasted the information onto a Publisher document. Customised the text with colours, fonts, borders and/or backgrounds. written a sentence or two to describe their process and what the CWGC site is used for

Found some of the more difficult names on the database verified their results with application of parameters which they have recorded in their log e.g. 'How old would he have been when killed?'; 'Was he in a local regiment?' etc Added illustrations and images to their work from further research into the soldiers' regiment, armed service branch, theatre of operation when killed and so on. Recorded the process of finding these images and their sources.

Produced at least two different styles of certificates from a choice of four: a primary school a Royal British Legion/armed services display a local/military history society the relatives of the fallen soldier

Tailored the information, details and presentation styles for each audience. Recorded their reasons for decisions made in the above process in a log. Given their final files appropriate filenames and saved them in the correct folders

Met the criteria for all four audiences Fully recorded their processes and decision-making. Included relevant details about the history behind the events. Written at least 150 words answering: "How valuable is the CWGC website?"
