To, All the students admitted to:‐ [ICMHRD] BETWEEN YOU AND ME Dear STUDENT, Welcome to Sri Balaji Society 1. We are sure that, you have received our admission letter and we acknowledge receipt of the payment made by you. Please note that, you are one amongst few candidates selected for admission to the management institutes of Sri Balaji Society. We may mention it here that, more than 12,000 applications were received by us this year despite the fact that we came out with our admission notification very late compared to others. 2. You should have by now read all the instructions given in the admission letter, line by line, and understood the importance and implications of the instructions contained therein. We request you to go through them once again and be assured that, each and every instruction and the implied action will be followed religiously in your own interest. This will help you to lead a tension free and stimulating environment in the campus. And we want you to understand and believe that, we are here to promote your happiness and future career. Our mantras of 'Discipline, Dedication and Determination' as well as 'Loyalty, Integrity and Honesty' are to help you to lead a growth oriented mindset and not to be coercive with punitive action. You are going to be our future asset and your success is going to be our success. 3. Sri Balaji Society is a charitable trust and the officials including the directors are there to help you to grow; to listen to your grievances; to do everything which will help you to achieve your goal. Simply said, we will 'guide you'. You need not fear us or anyone else as long as you are not violating any rules. We are sure that, you are a good student and want to get into a productive corporate career. We are not going to look at you as a student but as a 'Student Manager' which means your behaviour, attitude, language and life style should match that of a future 'corporate citizen'. 4. Please be assured that, if you decide to control your mind, and give leave to your whims and fancies for two years and decide to experiment towards positive and growth oriented
practices, you will surely be the future MD or atleast CEO of the great companies of the world. Mind you, all this people were like you once and they all have reached that stage not because of shortcuts but because of hard work, consistent learning, humility and humane nature. Arrogance and show offs have never helped any one in the long run. The Post Graduation 5. Because there are major differences between Graduation and Post Graduation courses. This is a high cost career course. You may be having a lot of expectation from the course. So will be the near and dear ones. And my advise to those who may like to take the studies lightly or casually is to request them to wake up at this point of time so that their future is not in jeopardy. Those of you who can not work hard around the clock or those who have medical problems should avoid joining our courses. Because the course is going to be continuous and consistent attention and attendance will be our requirement. Time is the most precious resource 6. You have to treat every minute as the most precious resource and to utilise that in the best possible manner to learn more and more. Whether anyone shows interest in you or not for whatever be the reason, you have to show interest in yourself. Knowledge and skills are to be learnt and gained through deliberate and systematic efforts. Self help will only help you to attain the competitive positions. None other than you can help yourself to win the war of life. Success and failure depend on your determination or otherwise to walk ahead of others in the race. Those who follow the mantras of 'Discipline, Dedication and Determination' and those who remember their parents and their efforts to fund the course have always emerged successful and made their parents and peers proud of them. And those who wasted their time and energy in unproductive pleasures have suffered. That is Law of Nature. The Ground Realities 7. Friends, let me remind you, the old story which I have been saying in the past. Yes, the stories of millions of graduates and post graduates who have ambitions to come up in life. Though they all may have come out of great Universities / Institutions or even from the same class, the ground realities are different. Take the following examples and apply your mind to relate yourself as to where you want to belong:‐
(a) One becomes the manager or joins the IAS cadre or becomes an officer in the Army or in the IPS. (b) One becomes a subordinate staff or clerk. (c) One becomes a peon or accepts any job to run his/her livelihood. (d) One has his / her own capabilities / facilities to do things with inherited wealth or so and remains happy. (e) And one keeps on hunting for a job or livelihood facing unending struggles. 8. Why should this happen notwithstanding the same facilities and faculties? Why should each student in the same class achieve different grades / placements? Why should a few students be in the top ranks and why should some at the bottom levels? Why should some consistently maintain first class or distinction throughout their academic career and why should few slip here and there? Those people who have failed to stand apart would like to pass on these different grades or standings and put the blame on destiny. That is the easiest way of seeking peace and self pitying. We should remember that no body will sincerely stand by you at their cost when there is competition. According to Thomas Hobbes 'People are selfish, brutish and nasty animals'. That does not mean that people are bad. There are angels and also devils. Mistakes do happen. Is there not a way out now? Can't we rectify the situation now? Yes, we can. We still can change our destiny. We still can work hard and beat our competitors. The God's Will 9. God always bless every one and everything He creates. He gives 'repeated' opportunities to every one to come up. He wants to 'forget' and 'forgive' the opportunities once or repeatedly missed by people; misguided people; misfortune people. Yet there is always a time factor for everything. The critical question is, when are they going to realise what to do, when to do and how to do? When are they going to have faith and confidence in themselves and start the battle to win the war? When are they going to feel that 'They can do it'? When are going to empower themselves that 'they are great'; they can win; they have their own strengths? Instead of being 'apologetic' and keep on regretting for 'this' or 'that', when are they really going to think and start the sincere effort to become the great and greatest in their career?
10. Friends, you can never have a situation in your life where things are going to be easy. Cut throat competitions, internal political maneuvers, instability and insecurity will keep on haunting because that is how life is designed on this earth. Winning and being happy will depend on your strengths and in your capabilities of being realistic / practical. The Two Slogans 11. That is why I always give this following 'slogans' to guide you and lead you though people often question the values arising out of these slogans:‐ (a) Problems are opportunities. (b) Be selfish (never neglect your ownself). 12. Just imagine ‐ if others can do it, why can't we? See the road. . . . . are there straight roads? Are there not ups and downs and yet are they not reaching a destination? See the topography of the World. . . . . . . different climate, hills and rivers, deserts and what not. Yet people in those countries are ultimately growing or suffering according to individual capabilities and not otherwise. Just check out as to who is heading the UNO. He is from one of the smallest country. The growth and development are not determined by family background alone. Each individual too can make a difference; that is the greatness of hard work, discipline, dedication and determination. 13. We all should learn from the past and make new resolutions. Because the past is the learning ground; the present is a new opportunity provided to us by the God and the future is the destiny which we can design and decide if we have the will. Some may have started their journey earlier. Some may have to struggle for some time before they wake up; Some may not do anything and keep on waiting for the God to come to help them. But the fact is 'God helps those who help themselves'. If they do not take the decisive steps at right time, frustration for a very long time will be on the card. 14. Your right time has come. Your joining a management program in Sri Balaji Society is the right decision and indicates that you have to start new initiatives and live under positive environment. Thinking positive always will lead you to the path of success and happiness. Having shared some of the thoughts on life related issues we shall now share certain vital information.
AICTE Issues 15. We are aware that, a lot of controversies are going on in the media about unapproved management institutes. We have made our position clear to you on the issue in the admission letter itself. We are enclosing some available newspaper cuttings for your information. Please note that, you still have an option to withdraw from this course in which case the full fees will be refunded before you join the course. Campus Placement – Is Balaji Society a Placement Agency? 16. Campus Placement activities are undertaken by all the management institutes in Pune. Few are very successful. Many are not. According to our track record, which you should verify and satisfy, we have been very successful in the past. We pray and hope that this record is maintained and improved. Yet, there are students who could not get very good jobs and they are disappointed. A couple of students may not have been placed and they may blame the Institute. 17. The point to be noted is that we are not a placement agency and we are not promising or committing or guaranteeing placement to any or every one. We are purely educational institutions interested in the corporate career building of our students. It may also be noted that, the campus placement facility is also not provided as a right to every one; only those who comply with the laid down rules and regulations, as of now or as may be laid down in the future in the interest of merit, code of conduct and right attitude and positive behaviour as seen from verifiable facts befitting the expectations of the industry. 18. Students violating the laid down norms, rules and regulations will be punished with an objective of correcting them and not spoiling their career because we consider ourselves as a family and an erring member is to be taken to task by the elders as it happen in any walk of life. Our approach towards the disciplinary powers with the management is that it will be utilized like the knife in the hands of the doctor which is used to operate and save the patient and not used to kill the patient. Therefore, there is no need to worry or fear of any one here. 19. Yet, merit will have to be recognized. All the students can not be the same. Therefore, certain important rules are highlighted as under:‐ (a) Minimum 80% of attendance is required to be eligible to sit in the examinations. All other legitimate absences from classes including on the grounds of sickness / hospitalization can be managed from the balance of 20% of absence allowed provided the students attend
the classes otherwise regularly and maintain good attendance. One may workout 20% out of 365 days to understand the cushion provided for contingencies warranting absences from the classes. Simply said, those who absent from classes 'here' and 'there' for wrong reasons or due to careless attitude will find themselves in deep trouble when they fall ill. And, without attending classes regularly they can not claim to be doing a 'Full Time' course and they can not be promoted to the second year. We once again state that students with medical problems warranting long absence should not join our course. Please note that our students generally maintain 90% and above of attendance only about 5% of the students have faired badly on this count. Therefore, each student should realize that he or she is paying heavily to do this course and hence attending classes 100% should be the attitude of the students and we have many such students who are doing it happily and we call them the most responsible children. Therefore, 80% is only a cushion but that should not be the goal. (b) Those who are maintaining 90% of attendance will be presented before the companies in the first instance for a few days for campus placements. Means, those who maintain above 80% but below 90% will get 'second' priority. (c) Those who have maintained 95% of attendance will get an attendance incentive of 5 (five) marks per paper. (d) Students involved in 'misconducts' will be placed in 'Red List' and they may not be allowed to sit for campus placements. (e) Class discipline and participation will be closely monitored and if any faculty makes a complaint / adverse remark against a student, disciplinary actions will be taken after due investigation. 20. Placements are not in our control. We charge fee to impart management education and not to provide placements. All that we can do is to train and groom the students and present them before the companies. They will get placements according to their own competence, communication skills, presentation skills, positive attitude and other criteria which each company may impose for selection to their organization. Therefore, it is left to each and every one of you to work hard to earn the placement. The institute can assist, advise and pray for students but can not dictate terms to the companies which may visit us for placement. Banking on the institute is a positive thing but questioning the institute for not getting placement is not correct. Institute can not be blamed for failure of students. 21. Because, each individual has his / her own merits and demerits. Their academic record
/ performance in the past is also different. Their academic profile will not be the same. Their communication skills both written as well as verbal will not be similar to each other. This is 'Law of nature'. Yet, history is full of success stories where a below average student or man had grown to greater height and glory through hard work and determination. The undersigned failed in SSLC with just 8 marks in mathematics in those days because he was in bad companies of people. When he realized his mistakes and decided to change his life style and alter his personality heavily depending on self development through hard work and studies, he has reached some where. 22. Sri Balaji Society shall treat each and every student at par. We will not discriminate on any account. But when it comes to Campus Placement, all of you have to work together to achieve better results. There can be no equality in campus placement. Each individual will get a job according to his / her own strengths / weaknesses / abilities / personality. The variations in salary and the status of placement will similarly depend on each individual's track record and their performance during their two years of training with us. It can be safely said that any one who make sincere efforts to develop and grow systematically under the grooming system will never fail and can definitely be a Winner. 23. We are making these issues clear because we do not want you to be under any illusions. Just because one has joined Sri Balaji Society does not mean that placement is guaranteed. Your success is in your hand. You will be responsible for your future career. We are sure that, you are a responsible student and will prove to be a success. We want you to be practical and be mentally prepared to work hard towards your career building. Hostel Accommodation – Current Status 24.
