IBAP LIS newsletter November 2008 Committee news We need to thank Hanna Latuputty, Indonesia for her in put on the committee and wish her all the best. In 2009 her role representing Indonesia is going to be filled by Stefany Brown. Our southern hemisphere schools will be going on a long summer break whilst the northern hemisphere schools will be working through. Madhu Bhargava, India is trying to start an Indian School Library Association – please contact her if you are interested in supporting this excellent initiative [email protected] Awards Jane Viner has been awarded two awards for service to school librarianship. The IASL International Association of School Librarianship Award 2008 is presented to an individual in recognition of an individual’s contribution to the national development of school libraries and services within their own country and internationally. http://www.iasl-online.org/events/islm/award2008.htm Jane has also received an award in her own country, Australia from the School Library Association of Victoria. The John Ward award is presented in recognition of an outstanding commitment to school librarianship in Victoria and as an acknowledgment of valuable service and contribution to learning and teaching. http://www.slav.schools.net.au/slav.html New resources http://www.ibo.org/ibap/ gives you access to a new resource on the IB Asia Pacific website which is designed to assist you in your strategic planning for IB professional development. In the right hand column on the website you will find "PD: Unpacking the Standards and Practices". Here you can download a document that will unpack the IB Standards and Practices in regard to professional development. It also contains links to related resources documenting the range of IB-approved, IBrelated and non-IB PD activities available to help your school meet its specific professional development needs. We hope these resources will help you in your professional development planning. Ed Lawless, Professional Development Officer, IBAP IB School librarians workshop in Singapore March 2009 For those of you working with the PYP, MYP, DP or interested in doing so.... The IBO have announced a PILOT workshop to be held in Singapore in March 2009. http://ibo.org/events/libsing01/ You need to register to indicate to the IBO that School librarians need and want training in working with this dynamic curriculum, and to give us a more visible 'official' role. There are only 60 places available for this conference in Singapore, but if there is enough interest they will conduct workshops in other regions/countries. So register your interest as soon as you can. Talking about advocacy...here is your chance to make a difference to your own profession.
