CREEN MECHANICS
. Rocket Screen, X or Z middle: We classify our rocket screen as a receiver coming from the outside back towards the quarterback. Quarterback will receive the shotgun snap and proceed into a cross-over three step drop, selling pass. On the anchor of the third step he will open his shoulders and his shoulders will be parallel to the line of scrimmage. Next he will back pedal for two or three steps inviting the rush from the defense. On the last step the quarterback will raise up on his toes, this ensures he is getting a high release over the nearest defender. As he rises up on his toes the football will raise up towards his ear and will flick the football to the receiver, it should look like he is “flicking a booger off his index finger.” Note: Be sure the quarterback opens shoulders to the line of scrimmage and back pedals and retreats away from the defense, this will help increase your throwing angle Note: The Quarterback must get a high release by getting up on his tiptoes; this will also reduce the chance of batted balls
