Claremont,
CA
(January
19,
2009)
—
The
Claremont
Museum
of
Art
is
pleased
to
present
James
Hueter:
A
Retrospec1ve,
 from
Sunday,
February
22
to
Sunday,
May
3,
2009.
The
Museum
will
host
a
public
opening
recepFon
from
7
to
9
p.m.
on
 Saturday,
February
21.

 Born
in
San
Francisco
in
1925
and
a
60‐year
resident
of
Claremont,
James
Hueter
epitomizes
a
generaFon
of
arFsts
who,
 aNracted
to
Claremont
and
the
surrounding
region
aOer
World
War
II,
established
their
reputaFons
here,
contribuFng
 importantly
to
the
creaFon
of
the
art‐rich
environment
we
enjoy
today.
A
1948
graduate
of
Pomona
College,
Hueter
holds
 an
M.F.A.
from
the
Claremont
Graduate
School
(1951).
His
life
as
an
arFst
conFnues
to
be
as
producFve
as
ever.

 This
exhibiFon
surveys
Hueter’s
long
and
ferFle
career,
from
the
early
realist
painFngs
influenced
by
his
teacher
and
 mentor
Henry
Lee
McFee
to
the
most
recent
works
that
combine
his
mulFple
interests
in
painFng,
sculpture,
 representaFon,
and
illusion.
The
exhibiFon
will
introduce
to
new
generaFons
an
arFst
of
diligent
devoFon
to
his
craO
 through
decades
of
drawing,
painFng,
photography,
and
sculpture.

 While
widely
admired
by
those
knowledgeable
about
the
arts,
James
Hueter
is
also
–
due
to
his
modest
demeanor
–
one
of
 the
best‐kept
secrets
of
the
arts
in
Claremont.
This
exhibiFon
aspires
to
reveal
and
celebrate
Hueter’s
work,
while
realizing
 a
core
mission
of
the
Claremont
Museum
of
Art
to
celebrate
the
region’s
rich
arFsFc
heritage
through
in‐depth
exhibiFons
 of
its
most
prominent
local
heroes.
