Charcoal The simple way is to make it. Believe it or not the best I have found is not hardwood but Alderwood charcoal. The reason many dislike charcoal is that they use hardwood (it will spit at you for using it). To make charcoal you just make a fire in an upright steel barrel open in one end and when it is almost full you put the lid on (airtight except for a small vent) and let it be for 2-3 days. To get the fire going try to have a piece of sheet metal sticking 1/3 into the barrel and remove it when the barrel is half full.
