FRIENDS OF DON BOSCO CENTER Friends of Don Bosco is a non profit organization which is also a non governmental organization (NGO) which is located at Kimara Dar es Salaam. The name Don Bosco is used in honour of Don Bosco, a French who conducted humanitarian activities worldwide. The ownership of this organization is under the founder who is also a Managing Director; assisted by various boards including Board of Directors; Board of Secretariate which comprises of Managing Director, Coordinator and Councellor.Below these are staffs in such matters as education, health and training. Basically, the organization performs various activities ranging from counselling, formal and non formal education including education on HIV/AIDS and life skills. Other functions include social activities such as sports and culture as far as entrepreneurship activities such as boutique and drawing. This centre started in 1998 with about six (6) children but due to various problems such as funding and legal procedures it was until 2001 when it was registered officially. The number of children have grown significantly to about one hundred twenty(120) currently, included are orphans and children from vulnerable environment some being in boarding schools while others who are living in the center are in day schools. The main sources of funds for running this centre are donations from government, individuals, governmental and non governmental organizations. Basing on these funds the organization runs a small education center tuitions are so as to generate more funds for running it. Following are summarized records of books of account of this organization for accounting periods 2007 and 2008:
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 1) Cash on hand as at 1January 2008 was sh 417,000/=. 2) Stock at 1January 2008 was sh 425,000/=.
3) Loan taken from good Samaritan for payment of school fees for children was sh 2,500,000(interest free) 4) Cash at bank on 1st January 2008 was sh 247,000/=. 5) Furniture and Fittings were purchased on 2003 at sh 3,465,000/= and depreciation was
provided at 5% per annum. 6) Computer purchased on 2006,sh 420,000/= at cost with scarp value of sh 60,000 and
economic useful life of 5years,straight line method. 7) Allowance includes sh 720,000/= which is for the education center. 8) Stationeries includes sh 370,000/= for education center.
