Herbie Student 8 ELA Language 4/1/19 Title: Pronoun Review Step #1 - Set up your page. 1. Go to FILE and PAGE SETUP. Make sure you have chosen PORTRAIT and the boxes under margins have a 1 (one inch of space on each side). 2. Go to FORMAT and LINE SPACING. Check off DOUBLE. This will skip lines. 3. Choose Times New Roman and 12 as your font. 4. Go to INSERT and HEADER AND PAGE NUMBER and PAGE NUMBER. Click the TOP box on the RIGHT. This will number your pages beginning on the SECOND page. Step #2 - Type this paragraph exactly as written. Was Herbie a troublemaker? One thing's for sure: Herbie had plenty of ideas, and he knew how to use them. One time in third grade Herbie decided to turn Mrs. Deaver's room into a tropical island. What kid in New Hampshire isn't ready for a little summer in February? So first he got everybody to make small palm trees out of green and brown construction paper and tape them. onto the corners of each desk. He then gave them instructions to make seashells and hand them to Mrs. Deaver. His classmates told him that he would get in trouble. Mrs. Deaver was very irritated with Herbie, so she wrote him a detention and handed the paper to him. When Herbie told me the story, I became very irritated. I had warned him about playing tricks in class, but he ignored me.

Step #3 Directions: 1. Underline all of the pronouns. To do so, highlight the pronoun and click on the underlined U at the top of the page. 2. Then, highlight the pronouns in the nominative case and change the font from black to red using the underlined A at the top of the page. 3. Then, highlight the pronouns in the accusative case and change the font from black to blue using the underlined A at the top of the page. 4. If you do NOT think the pronoun is nominative or accusative, change the font from black to green using the underlined A at the top of the page.

Remember: 1. Pronouns replace names of people (Batman, Mr. M), specific places (the planet Krypton), or things (the Millennium Falcon [Star Wars ship], Statue of Liberty.) 2. Nominative Case pronouns are usually subjects of sentences and come BEFORE action verbs (run, kick,

throw). They can also come AFTER the verbs is, are, was, were or AFTER verbs related to your senses (e.g. looks/seems/appears, tastes, smells, sounds, feels) 3. Accusative Case pronouns (also called DIRECT OBJECT pronouns) u sually come AFTER action verbs (eat, drink, laugh). Be careful, not EVERY pronoun after an action verb is accusative. Happy pronoun hunting. Grading: 1) All pronouns must be identified. 2) All pronouns must have the font changed to red, blue, or green. We will be following up with this in class!
