A year of change for the Hammond’s. 2009 has been a big year of transition for us. I began a new role, in May, as the National Recruiter for YFC Australia. It is a fantastic job that allows me to travel and preach around Australia. They have an amazing new National Director Conrad Parsons, who will take YFC to the next stage of fruitfulness.

After 7 years, we transitioned out of the leadership of the Junction in July. This was a meaningful experience as we felt loved and honored by our community. Junction is still our home. After Lachlan & Maria came back from Cambodia, I went to the States in January. After meeting the team at

CCC we accepted a job offer from Community Christian Church as the Director of Missional Leadership Development. We fly out December 9th to LA for a week then onto Chicago to work and live. We are also planning to help the Hirsch’s when needed. (Visas pending)

BOYS PACKING FOR THE USA

We are moving as a family & will be serving as a family. Moving counties, packing house and starting a new job, half way around the world is not an easy thing to do. While incredibly exciting there are so many things to organize and so many costs involved. Learning to simplify our lives in preparation to going has been a fantastic discipline as a family.

THIS IS A FAMILY ADVENTURE FOR US THAT WE WILL NEVER FORGET. People ask us why America. Since I was a child I have been fascinated with American culture. From following the NBA to buying my first Nikes I have always wanted to live there. Maria and the boys love America & the NBA too. When we all went there in 2006 with Maria’s family it was the fulfillment of a life long dream. When the Hirsch’s moved over in 2007 we thought there might be a chance we could come over and work with them. Having meet Mike Katzenberger in LA & all the team at Community Christian Church in Chicago in January 2009, I came back convinced it was right for us to go.

MARIA & I HAVE TOGETHER FELT THE CALL TO AMERICA A fork in the road. After fourteen years of pastoral leadership. Church planting and leading a mission agency, this year has been all about getting healthy, healed & renewed as a person, while growing closer as a family. We have never had so much quality time as a family with little stress. This is a chance to grow together as a family, grow in leadership & influence & learn from some of the best & most innovative leaders in the world.

LAC H LA N LACHLAN WILL BE 10 IN OCTOBER & IS IN GRADE 4. HE IS VICE CAPTAIN OF THE JUNIOR CAMPUS AT HIS SCHOOL & CAPTAIN OF HIS UNDER 11’S BASKET BALL TEAM. HE OFTEN TRAVELS WITH ME. HE LOVED GOING TO CAMBODIA & HAS A BIG SOFT HEART FOR PEOPLE. HE LOVES THE DRUMS & MUSIC . HE IS EXCITED ABOUT SEEING LOTS OF AMERICA & GOING TO AN NBA GAME. HE IS A LAKERS FAN.

C ART ER CARTER TURNED 7 IN MAY & IS IN GRADE 1. HE LOVES TO DRAW, PAINT & MAKE THINGS & IS QUITE GIFTED. HE APPEARS SHY AT FIRST & IS HAPPY WITH HIS OWN COMPANY HOWEVER AT HOME HE IS THE FUNNIEST-CRAZIEST KID WITH A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. KIDS LOVE HIM COZ HE IS A GOOD FRIEND. HE LOVES TO READ & ALSO PLAYS BASKETBALL FOR UNDER 9S. HE LOVES SPONGE BOB & IS A BULLS FAN.

J ORDAN JORDAN WILL BE 5 IN SEPTEMBER & IS IN KINDERGARDEN. HE IS THE BOSS OF THE FAMILY & THE ONE THAT GETS THE MOST NOTICED. HE IS FULL OF ENERGY & LOVES TO PLAY WITH OTHERS. HE IS SELF CONFIDENT & SPONTANEOUS WE ARE NEVER SHORT FOR LAUGHS WITH JORDAN AROUND. HE IS CONVINCED HE CAN DO ANYTHING HIS BROTHERS DO & LETS US ALL KNOW ABOUT IT. HE IS A BEN 10 FAN!!! (HE TRIED TO TELL ME WHAT TO WRITE!!)

There is an amazing group of missionary leaders at Community Christian Church, Chicago. CCC is one of the most innovative and influential churches in America. Dave Ferguson planted the church and now leads the New Thing network and chairs the Exponential conference. We are going to help CCC adopt a missional posture. I will be working for Eric Metcalf, an articulate, intelligent pastor at CCC. He calls the three of us the missional trident, referring to himself, Bill & I. Eric & Bill (Pictured right) are becoming good friends & I’m enjoying chatting to them every month on Tok Box. We dream, plan & scheme what we will do & hope to achieve when we arrive. My job is to implement a missional training system for the members of CCC who want to be missionaries to their backyard. I will be looking for coaches & mentors to make

up my core team so we can cover the potentially large amount of people wanting to begin a missional posture to their communities. I have already started speaking to pastors & leaders who are thinking missionaly. From Cher, who is working among homeless people in the City, to Mark who is gathering over 100 men every week, around a local golf course most mornings. There is a building momentum & excitement about what God is doing & will do.

We are excited about being part of CCC’s community, living with the Warners (Pictured) & using our gifts to mentor, mobilize & motivate missionary leaders. We will fly out December 9th to LA for one week. Then onto Chicago on the 16th to begin life & work. I am doing the closing session of CCC’s small groups conference “mission possible” January 23rd 2010.
