What are we doing?
Charity Organization
What Happened?
The charity organization that we are donating to is called Tzu Chi Foundation.
SIS International Crisis Awareness (SICA) is raising money to help the victims of Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan. Because Halloween is approaching, we’ve run through different options, and finally settled on selling candy for Halloween.
Your benefits: Your benefits include that of knowing that you helped Taiwan through the help of buying candy for Halloween. Also, this saves you a trip from having to travel far in Shenzhen in order to just find candy to hand out to trick-or-treaters. Smart right? Whoever knew that Halloween could save lives through candy sales?
Other benefits: Other benefits are that we help Taiwan with the money donations collected from candy sales, know that we’ve done something good for the world, and that we’ve helped, even only very little, Taiwan
Tzu Chi Foundation was established in1966 by Venerable Dharma Master Cheng Yen on the impecunious east coast of Taiwan. For over 42 years, the foundation has been contributing to better social and community services, medical care, education and humanism in Taiwan and around the world. From the first 30 members, housewives who saved two cents from their grocery money each day to help the poor, the foundation has grown to over five million members in 45 countries. Tzu Chi’s missions focus on giving material aid to the needy and inspiring love and humanity to both givers and receivers. It also promotes humanistic values and community volunteerism. Through helping those in need, Tzu Chi volunteers take on the path of bodhisattva practices, the way to Buddhahood.
Typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan with strong winds and heavy downpours on August 7. Toppled buildings, landslide burying villages, overflowing rivers and flooded streets are among the ravages it has made to many areas. Thousands of people have been displaced. More than 17,000 Tzu Chi volunteers around Taiwan immediately started relief efforts. More than 200,000 hot meals have already been delivered. Emergency relief money of NT$5,000-10,000 per household is scheduled to be distributed to 12,000 families in the hardest hit areas. Tzu Chi volunteers have distributed relief materials, including 25 tons of instant rice, 2,000 boxes of instant noodles, 34,000 eco-friendly blankets and utensils and other daily necessities.
