On Saturday, October 24, 2009, twenty-five high school students got together in Jingshan at noon for one purpose – a Halloween Charity for Taiwan. For weeks, SICA members have been struggling to find an opening to make a large-scale project possible, but when that wasn’t possible, they turned towards organizing a Halloween charity to raise money for Taiwan victims of Typhoon Morakot. Over one hundred packages of candy was packaged and sold at the first SICA event, collecting ¥1930.1 RMB total, and making a profit of ¥522.1 RMB. SICA would like to thank all students, parents, and staff who had one of the teams of students stop by their homes and for participating in our first major event that became our first successful project of the year. Thanks to you, SICA can now happily turn over ¥3000 RMB of donations in order to help Taiwan recover from massive flooding in parts of southern Taiwan. The aims of SICA fall in the category of “true humanitarian” – selfless dedication and sacrifice for the betterment of humankind. No matter which meeting you find us in, we’ll never be wasting it away – we’ll always be looking for another part of the world to help. Where will we turn to next? Who knows – it’s wherever the world needs us the most.
