Pizzly Bears on Melting Ice by Masahiro Minami

Polar Bears live in the Arctic and Grizzly bears live in Canada and never the twain shall meet… or should they? That’s what was on everyone’s mind when a Pizzly Bear (or if you prefer, a Grolar Bear) turned up in ’06 in the Canadian Arctic. Apparently, the melting snow caps caused these bears’ habitats to overlap, and consequently resulted in their unlikely offspring. Although this incident would typically be perceived as a sad state of environmental affairs, one person saw it differently. Masahiro Minami, a designer working out of Shiga Prefecture in Japan, was inspired by this beautiful love story and decided to create ‘Bears on Melting Ice’ (2008) for his daughter. Bianics Biotoilet: Just in Time

Bianics biotoilets use micro-organisms in cedar chips to break down toilet waste into water and carbon dioxide. "The water is then re-circulated into the toilet tank, and thus never leaves the system." There is no wastewater, no sludge and no need to empty or clean the system. Each flush-style toilet is fully self-contained, self-cleaning, odorless, needs only occasional water [though the Cougar Rock biotoilet uses a rainwater catchment system] and uses about as much power as a typical microwave. The biotoilets even have heated seats! READ ON: http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/01 0470.html

Japanese Town in 'The Cove' Setting Dolphins Free!

The Japanese town chronicled in the awardwinning film "The Cove" for its annual dolphin hunt that turns coastal waters red with blood has suspended killing the animals — at least for this week's catch — following an international outcry. The western Japanese town of Taiji will sell some of the animals to aquariums as it does every year, but the remainder of the 100 bottlenose dolphins that were caught early Wednesday in the first catch of the season are to be released. How DO You Feed a Great White Shark? (VIDEO)

For a shark on exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the answer is: Carefully! But there's also an art to getting healthy, vitamin-enriched food to the shark while she's here -- without the meal ending up in the mouth of a hungry tuna or hammerhead, on the prowl for a morsel of wildcaught salmon. Arctic Exploration Finds Large Underwater Mountain

Joint U.S.-Canada exploration of the Arctic sea floor discovered an unusual underwater mountain and evidence that could boost the two countries' claims that their boundaries extend farther north.
