pertaining to the liver. a carcinoma derived from parenchymal cells of the liver. Syn: hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatocarcinoma. relating to an agent that damages the liver, or pertaining to any such action. an agent that promotes retention of moisture; a substance added to a powder, e.g., a dentifrice, to prevent hardening on exposure to air. a chemical process whereby a compound is cleaved into two or more simpler compounds with the uptake of the H and OH parts of a water molecule on either side of the chemical bond cleaved; hydrolysis is effected by the action of acids, alkalies, or enzymes. Cf. hydration. excessive sensitivity to painful stimuli the presence of an increased amount of blood in a part or organ. See Also: congestion. excessive or profuse sweating. Syn: polyidrosis, hyperidrosis, polyhidrosis. : the presence of excess fat or lipids in the blood an increase in number of cells in a tissue or organ, excluding tumor formation, whereby the bulk of the part or organ may be increased. See Also: hypertrophy. breathing that is deeper and more rapid than is normal at rest. high blood pressure; generally established guidelines are values of more than 140 mmHg systolic, or more than 90 mmHg diastolic blood pressure. Despite many discrete and inherited but rare forms that have been identified, the evidence is that for the most part blood pressure is a multifactorial, perhaps galtonian trait. therapeutically induced hyperpyrexia. general increase in bulk of a part or organ, due to increase in size, but not in number, of the individual tissue elements. See Also: hyperplasia. 1 : of or relating to the parts beneath the skin. 2 : adapted for use in or administered by injection beneath the skin pertaining to or characterized by hypoglycemia. (an abnormally small concentration of glucose in the circulating blood)
hypoglycemic hypohidrosis diminished perspiration. hypomenorrhea diminution of the flow or a shortening of the duration of menstruation. hypotension hypothermia
1. subnormal arterial blood pressure. Syn: hypopiesis. 2. reduced pressure or tension of any kind. a body temperature significantly below 98.6°F (37°C).
