Useful skills to have when looking for HR career include:
the ability to communicate effectively influencing skills (e.g. with managers you have no direct power over) maintaining a fair and objective attitude working effectively with and managing others working well and making decisions in a pressurised environment confidentiality the integrity to protect/defend a point of view to commercial managers and against commercial pressures business awareness to see things from the employer’s perspective
Experience is important if graduates want to progress in HRM
Developing your portfolio of experience could come from:
active involvement in a society a volunteering project a vacation placement/summer job taking on extra responsibility in a part‐time position organising an event or activity with others. Informal work shadowing

roles exist working 'in house' or for independent consultancies or service providers. A variety of job roles exist, from those that focus on planning and strategy to those that are more creative. A related degree is not always required but relevant work experience usually is.

These areas may be viewed as glamorous and exciting, it is also worth noting that intense competition exists to enter, that high standards are demanded and hours can be long.
Sales roles are widely available in the North West and are not limited to Manchester or specific cities. However, the larger urban areas are likely to have a greater number of opportunities.

Finance… There are several areas of finance in which management students can enter
upon graduation. The finance sector covers a wide range of careers most of which have formal graduate entry procedures, leading to professional qualifications.
Most students entering finance train as accountants, with chartered,
management and certified accountancy companies the biggest recruiters. Banking and insurance are also popular areas, followed by actuarial work and financial services.

When marketing yourself do not just focus on you're qualifications. You're hobbies and experiences may seem trivial to you but to the professional reading your CV they tell a lot about you're teamwork, determination, interests, skills and personality. Which will ALL help you sell yourself.
However, always make sure you're CV is adapted each time you apply for a job to make it RELEVANT.
Get as much experience as you can. That placement/internship/volunteer work/work experience may seem taxing and unrewarding now but you will reap the benefits when looking for a job in the future.
