COLLEGE OF NURSING Since 1976 The researchers used a descriptive type of research to know the level of awareness and the practices on the prevention of hypertension among selected hypertensive respondents. The researchers used purposive sampling technique. The respondent should have a blood pressure with 140 systolic pressure and above and 90 diastolic pressure and above in order to
be a respondents. The researcher obtained a list of individuals who are vi hypertensive from the midwife assigned in the health center. Only thirty residents were qualified to the criteria. After obtaining the address of each hypertensive respondents, on July 4, 2008 the researcher started to conduct the survey through house to house visit. Majority of the respondents were high school graduate belonged to the age bracket of 31-40 years old. The selected respondents of Barangay Caingin Sta. Rosa, were aware that they need to relax whenever they feel tired and under stress, much of the fact that exercise,
blood pressure monitoring and intake of maintenance
drugs are important and one of the preventive measure to prevent hypertension. In the prevention of hypertension, the respondents sometimes take rest whenever they felt dizziness and having nape pain and prefer to eat vegetables and fruits than meat as well as drink alcohol moderately. There is no significant relationship between demographic profile and the level of awareness and practices in the prevention of hypertension. The demographic profile has no impact on the level of awareness of respondents on the prevention of hypertension. Likewise demographic profile has no impact on the practices of the respondents.

COLLEGE OF NURSING Since 1976 The respondents maybe aware about hypertension but not necessarily apply the practices to prevent it. In conclusion, most of the respondents are in the middle young-aged, and who attain high school level. Respondents were aware regarding the ways on how to prevent hypertension but they do not strictly practice the necessary preventions. Age and Educational Attainment is not a contributing factor for
the respondents to be aware of preventing hypertension. Likewise, on practices to prevent hypertension, ageviiand educational attainment is not a contributory factor. The researchers recommend the following: The Nurses, Midwives and other Health Care Providers should conduct the seminars regarding importance of blood pressure monitoring, topics on how to prevent hypertension to all residents of Barangay Caingin. Together with health teachings, strict monitoring of hypertension should be done regularly especially those identified hypertensive clients. Health Care Provider should plan a program or organize a regular aerobics exercises and conduct seminars regarding proper food regimen and to distribute pamphlets for information dissemination regarding the effect of smoking and liquor intake. The Student Nurses during their community exposure should regularly visit their hypertensive patient to monitor their blood pressure and give health teachings on prevention of hypertension. Emphasize to them importance of limiting alcohol intake and regular monitoring of blood pressure to control the continuing elevation and encouraged to stop smoking.
