GreenSkills –

apprenticeships and traineeships for environmental industries GreenSkills Objectives Organisations such as the Dusseldorp Skills Forum, the Australian Council of Trade Unions and the Australian Conservation Foundation have all identified the ‘green economy’ as an opportunity to expand employment opportunities as well as an area of significant skill shortage. The ‘green economy’ requires both new skilled occupations and skills development in traditional occupations. Skill areas identified in various reports and through WPC Group’s own research indicate that the following will require more skilled people: n Residential and commercial advisory and installation services for renewable energy (solar, wind etc.), energy conservation, water catchment systems (tank water), water waste systems (grey-water and water-recycling), water conservation systems; n Invention, development, manufacture and distribution of renewable energy, energy conservation, water catchment systems, water waste systems and water conservation systems; n Environmentally Sustainable Design services for domestic dwellings, commercial and industrial buildings and plants as well as maintenance of sustainable design initiatives and programs; n Advisory, installation and maintenance services for low emission and clean vehicle technology; n Advisory and implementation services for land rehabilitation and eco-system maintenance; n Advisory and implementation services for sustainable agricultural systems including water management, chemical and emissions reduction; n Forestry services for carbon offset and land-use change programs as well as fibre production; n Invention and production of biomaterials; n Environmental, auditing, accreditation and accounting services; n Sustainable purchasing and supply chain management systems.
