First of all, GPRO lite stands for : GRAND PRIX RACING ONLINE light interactive tactical entertainment. :o) The game will be played on this forum, but some files on the game will appear on next URL : http://www.esnips.com/web/GPROlite To start with, every interested player can take a spot in one of following teams (2 spots in each team) : - McLaren 1988 - Williams 1992 - Ferrari 2005 - Benetton 1988 - Lotus 1986 - Brabham 1975 - Jordan 2000 - Ligier 1986 - Tyrrell 1986 - Larousse 1990 - Pacific 1994 - Arrows 2000 To play this game I'll need 16 to 24 players. If the game is full, and still more people would like to join, we can always try to do something about it. At least if you miss 3 GPs or you want to quit, your spot comes free again (of course you can go in vacation mode if needed).
QUALIFICATION & RACE STRATEGY ------------------ . ------------------Each race will have its own topic and will last a certain amount of posts. In the beginning of the topic it will be described how long each tyre will last (in amount of posts). For instance : XS : 25 S : 35 M : 45 H : 55 In that opening message I'll also write when the Qualification will start. From that point, you will have 12 hours to qualify. The race will begin exactly 24 hours later than the start of the Qualification. As soon as the Qualification is open, each player willing to qualify posts the words "start qualif" in the race topic. Then he PMs me his strategy, and he tries to PM this exactly 1 minute later than having started his qualify lap. For each second the PM is too late = +1 second For each second the PM is too early = +5 seconds !! One part of your strategy is to decide which tyre to take. The softer the tyre, the faster your qualification lap : Tyre Choice XS : +0.250 seconds S : +0.500 seconds M : +0.750 seconds H : +1.000 seconds Another thing you need to sort out, is the fuel you will start with and will take in each stint. Minimum stint = 10 posts Maximum stint = the amount of posts your chosen tyre can last Fuel Amount For each post you want to get further : +0.100 seconds (so fuel for 20 posts means +2 seconds) Remarks - If two or several people have the same qualification time, then who qualified first goes in front. - You can use a stopwatch to help you pm exactly one minute after your "start qualif" post. - You can try to work a strategy out with just the amounf of fuel to make it to the finish, but you might fall short, as all players can play a move to let someone pit one or more posts earlier. So you better play a little bit safe, or you might need an extra pitstop (splash & dash). This being one part of the risk you can take in this game.
MOVES -------Each one will start the race with a set of 10 moves. If you’re very active in the game, you probably want to use them all (each move can be played only once in a race). Though you won’t want to play them all before halfway the GP, as the later in the race you use them, the better. YOUR SET OF MOVES depends on 2 things : your chosen tyres and the risk you want to take ! Tyres Extra Soft = XS Overtake 4 Overtake 4 Overtake 3 Overtake 3 Overtake 2 Block Block Pit Earlier Error Protect Soft = S Overtake 4 Overtake 3 Overtake 3 Overtake 2 Block Block Pit Earlier Pit Earlier Error Protect Medium = M Overtake 4 Overtake 3 Overtake 2 Block Block Block Pit Earlier Pit Earlier Error Protect Hard = H Overtake 3 Overtake 2 Overtake 1 Block Block Block Pit Earlier Pit Earlier Error Protect Risk Low : one more “Protect”, instead of an “Overtake 3” Med. : no changes to the standard set High : one more “Overtake 3”, instead of your “Protect”
Most of your moves are active: some are offensive, some defensive and the others cause random harm. Protect is the only passive move. It just helps to save you from harm. You can’t play that one, so each of you will have 8 to 10 moves to play during the race, depending on the risk you took. MEANING OF ALL MOVES : Active
Overtake The number of cars you try to overtake. But beware of being blocked ! Block If you think someone is trying to overtake you, you can try blocking him. A “Block” move only applies to the previous post, so you play it after an “Overtake”. If while you were typing, someone else already played another move, it’s possible your blocking won’t be successful at all. If successful, several things are possible : if the overtaker had 1 more car to overtake : nothing happens, you just managed to keep it behind you if the overtaker had 2 more cars to overtake : the overtaker has to brake hard, losing 1 place again if the overtaker had 3 more cars to overtake : you touched each other lightly, both losing 1 place if the overtaker had 4 more cars to overtake : both will be damaged, losing 1 place AND -1 in each overtaking attempt for the end of the race Pit Earlier If you play this, some car in the race (it can be your own !) between 1st and 20th place will need to pit one or two posts earlier than planned. It will be the car driving in the position equal to the sum of all ‘time digits’ on the moment of posting. if the sum is 20 or less : that car pits 1 post earlier if the sum is over 20 : that car pits 2 posts earlier f.i. 18:43:25 = 23 , so the car in third place will pit 2 posts earlier than he planned in this stint Error In dedicing which car it’ll apply on, it works just the same as “Pit Earlier”. But when ending on an even digit, the error will be a small one. When ending on an odd digit, it will be a big error ! small error (even digit), and the sum is 20 or less : taken wrong line, losing 1 place small error (even digit), and the sum is over 20 : you went off the track, losing 2 places BIG error (odd digit), and the sum is 20 or less : making a spin, losing 3 places BIG error (odd digit), and the sum is over 20 : that car will unfortunately crash OUT Passive Protect This ‘move’ will protect you from any possible harm (from blocking, pit earlier, error) that’s to hit you next. It can save you from just losing 1 place, as well as from crashing out. The moment you’ve needed it, you lose this passive move. If you run out of protection, you’ll suffer from any harm you’re bound to receive.
RACE DYNAMICS ------------------A GP will begin exactly 24 hours after start of the Qualification ! People posting their opening move too early (even a second) will make a false start and will receive a Stop & Go penalty. If you’re forced to make a Stop & Go, you’ll pit after 5 posts and lose 5 places. For your next stints, you will take fuel in your tank for as long as your chosen tyres can last. Each race has its own specific characteristics, which results in different values for several things to build your strategy on : Race Distance : the amount of posts each GP will last Tyres Usage : how long each tyre can last (max.) Pitstop Time : how many places you’ll lose with a stop Track Length : how many posts you need to wait before you can post again Breakpoints : number of breakpoints and at what point in the race Breakpoints During a GP there will be a few moments the race will be put on halt for a while, so all posts & events since previous point can be worked out and a new race order can be shown (by me). At the start of a race and after each breakpoint it will be determined till what post you can keep playing moves, before reaching the next breakpoint. It will be very important not to post another move as soon as this breakpoint has been reached ! Anyone doing so will drop out of the race !!! So be very careful to play the last move before a breakpoint, as when someone else would post just a few seconds before you do, you might be forced out ! :o) Car Failures / DQ Besides crashing out you can also drop out because of a car failure or getting disqualified. This will happen if you post an irregular reply : - playing a move you don’t have (anymore), so keep track of it - posting a message containing no move at all (use the Rules topic to ask questions about the game) - posting after the last possible post number before a breakpoint - posting a move after the finish line = DQ - and any other possible irregular post Posts from non-participating players will not count towards the total amount of race posts.
Crashing Out Besides crashing out because of a big driver error (randomly assigned to you), you can also crash out due to an action of your own. If two guys driving right behind each other post within 10 seconds or less and nobody else in between, they crashed and will be both out of the race ! Anybody being crashed out can post until the next breakpoint, as it’s possible you don’t know that until then.
SUMMARY ----------1. Before each GP you choose your strategy : TYRES & RISK STARTING FUEL WHEN TO PIT 2. Post “start qualif” during the 12 hours that Qualification is open. 3. Try to PM your strategy exactly 1 minute after you posted “start qualif”. 4. Start playing moves as soon as the race starts. But beware not to play after breakpoints nor race end. 5. Keep track of your 8 to 10 active moves. 6. Have fun and try to win ! :o)
