The officials have been given instructions to encourage the farmers to achieve this target. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture Development has picked Gampaha, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala and Matale areas to expand ginger cultivation in the country, to reduce the country’s dependence on imported ginger. Sri Lanka has to import around 400 metric tons of ginger annually to meet the demand in the country. Today nearly 4000 acres are under ginger crop in the island.
