Hello everyone Today I will talk something about the gestures. You know that , one person’s gesture may be another person’s insult. In different countries and different cultures, the gestures mean the exact opposite. 1. The OK sign means “everything is great”, in the US and Germany. In Mexico it means things are just good, not excellent. In most other European countries as well as in Argentina it means something is worthless and absolute zero. In Japan is a symbol for money. In Spain, Russia, Brazil it’s considered a vulgar gesture. 2. Thumbs up It signals approval in the US, Britain and Russia. However, in Iran it’s a highly offensive gesture, it’s also considered a rude gesture in Australia. 3. Thumbs down In the US and Canada it shows disapproval. In Greece it’s considered a rude sign and is often used to signal their anger over someone’s crazy driving. 4. The V sign In Britain and many other parts of the world, the signal for victory. Survivors of the hippie era of the 1960s in America would interpret it as a “peace sign”. 5. To hell with you An offensive gesture in England and south Africa is the V for victory sign done with you palm facing yourself. 6. The finger In the US, most of European and many other parts of the world this is a highly offensive gesture. 7. Raised eyebrows The eyebrows raised in America, the gesture signals surprise. In Philippine, a quick lifting of the eyebrows is a non-verbal signal meaning hello. 8. Snapping the fingers of both hands A vulgar gesture in France 9. Should shrug In Italy it signals that you don’t know or care about something. In America it means a reluctance to agree. In France it means something is ridiculous. That’s all thank you.
