Since M is the midpoint, AM = 1/2 of AB
Therefore, 4y - 11 = 1/2(2y + 8) this simplifies to 4y - 11 = y + 4
4y - 11 = y + 4 finish solving: 4y = y + 15 3y = 15 y=5
Now, go back and read the question It asks for AB. Since AB = 2y + 8 and we found that y = 5, then AB = 2(5) + 8
