Genius
I know the mind plays tricks Especially when I’m stuck, working an unmitigated fix A thousand first lines and innovative ideas Given a voice, cause excitement in my ears Genius in us all resides I am assured, yet still in me, coy, it hides The ramblings to biased readers read aloud Makes mockery of my efforts, makes me falsely proud And when read in isolation in subsequent lonely days The piece revisited displays Crass, inelegant style-free verse I shrug and ponder if my genius can get any worse.
