GENDER AT THE BORDER II A Transnational and Interdisziplinary Workshop in Gender Studies for PhD Students and faculty from Central European University, Hungary, and Vienna University, Austria The academic workshop “Gender at the Border II” is a research cooperation and networking project between the Centre for Advanced Gender Studies University of Vienna, Austria ( www.univie.ac.at/gender-kolleg ), and the Department of Gender Studies, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary ( http://www.gend.ceu.hu/ ). The meeting is scheduled for 3rd to 6th May in “Purbach am Neusiedlersee,” situated at the Hungarian/Austrian border. The workshop is financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture. Description: •

PhD students from both universities will meet at the Hungarian/Austrian border.

While the PhD students will come from two universities (and many countries!) and from several disciplines from the humanities and social sciences, the shared interest in Gender Studies will build the common ground for the exchange process. As a town at the Hungarian/Austrian border in Austria Purbach am Neusiedlersee will be a nice location for this event. Time and duration of the workshop: 3rd to 6th May 2007

Workshop language is English

Participants: 14 PhD students (7 from each university), 6 faculty members (3 from each university) and 2 organizers from Vienna The “state of the arts” in Gender Studies will be presented and discussed in the beginning of the workshop by the faculty members. A discussion on the future of Gender Studies, based on teamwork on this subject, will close the meeting. Exchange will take place within the setting of a workshop: each participating student will present her/his PhD project (max. 20 minutes). This presentation will be followed by 40 minutes of comments and discussion.

Interested students may apply for the participation of the workshop. The admission of the participating students will be handled by the two institutions involved.
