Topic: Using the Scientific Method in Everyday Life 1. Three things that I significantly learned from the video clip a. Science does not deal with the discovery of laws or facts that have no exceptions and are always true under any condition, but rather work with probabilities of things to occur; it conducts tests and creates theories that would logically support claims also with the help of experiments. b. In science, rules do not always mean to be true – sometimes they could go wrong which is why we conduct various tests and experiments to prove such theories to be true and if not, we could make alterations that would seem plausible for the masses. This is a never-ending cycle, tests are done repeatedly to find flaws and change them if possible under circumstances. c. We unconsciously utilize the scientific method in our everyday lives and we improve it through conscientious practice that may vary from person to person, but the concept of doing scientific method basically stays the same. 2. Three things that are still unclear to me a. Basis of critical thinking b. Ultimate truths c. Scientific literacy 3. I used to think that scientific method is limited only to people that does scientific experiments. Since they are more exposed to tests, they are far more capable of relying to such method and succeeding all throughout the experiment/s. Upon watching the video, I now realize that it is not limited to scientists but is open to the whole world, to all the people. 4. Three questions that I want to ask about the video clip a. To what extent can an observation become valid? b. When do we use precision and accuracy? c. Are there limitations to conclusions we could make out of experiments to verify our claims?

Topic: United Nations Security Council 1. Three things that I significantly learned from the video clip a. Decisions made in the United Nations Security Council is not solely reliant for the number of votes that are casted upon the draft. This means that one single negative vote can shut down any idea that has been proposed regardless of the support garnered from the other council members. b. The council has the power to deal with aggression acts and any threats imposed by states that wage war and disturb the peace and order of the international community. The council either conducts peaceful settlement of disputes or negotiations or direct intervention for peacekeeping by sending troops to conduct neutral peacekeeping operations. In worse cases, the council have the power to impose sanctions to rogue states and even authorize the use of military force. c. The council also appoints the UN secretary general who is in charge of such operations as well as the election of judges for the International Court of Justice which decides how to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted by States, and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized UN organs and specialized agencies. 2. Three things that are still unclear to me a. Basis for states to be under sanctions b. Implications of UN Security Council to countries that chose not to be a part of it c. Qualifications to become members of the council 3. I used to think that the members of United Nations Security Council come from the countries that is a part of it, or a representative of some sort. I was not aware that members are decided through voting and is limited to a number which is fifteen (15), and is also divided into two parts, the permanent and non-permanent members. I also thought that the voting system only happens for the countries

involved, before deciding on a person to represent the country he/she is a part of. 4. Three questions that I want to ask about the video clip a. Is the United Nations Security Council limited to maintaining peace and order among countries? b. Does the existence of the council also affect the economic state of the countries involved? c. Can decisions made under the council be undone?
