2009 Media Guide Introduction to gCaptain.com Here at gCaptain, we specialize in introducing and promoting new tools available from Web 2.0 to the professional mariner. Web 2.0 is the integration of information, tools and services that promote communities on the web. On the most basic level it means we aggregate and extract information in the form of news, photos and video from external sources throughout the web. At the highest levels, itʼs sharing ideas internally (e.g. between the gCaptain forum and blog) and externally through our social media outposts (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc,). gCaptain aims to build a community of professionals working in the maritime industry through social media tools that promote user interaction, discussion and the sharing of ideas. We believe that by bridging the communication gap amongst mariners we can effectively foster ideas that improve safety, efficiency and promote a healthy working environment. The real strength of gCaptain comes in the ideas, thoughts and actions of all our community members working together. The power to shape the future is in the voices of the maritime community and gCaptain is listening.
