Tufts Community Union Budget Proposal Fiscal Year 2010 During the FY 2010 Budget Cycle, the Allocations Board prepared budgets for 140 student organizations for a grand total of $1,394,300.59. This total is based on a 3.60% increase over the FY 2009 Student Activities Fee revenue ($1,346,432.00). FY 2010 TCU Budget (*Approval by 20082009 TCU Senate Required*) The following is a summary of all FY 2010 Budgets. These budgets will become valid and binding upon adoption by a majority vote of the TCU Senate, and will be come active on 1 July 2009. This includes a $10,000 net increase (for a total of just over $52,000) in the grant the TCU Senate gives to the Athletics Department for the administration of club sports. For the first time in its history, the TCU Senate has also eliminated the cost of tickets for events, such as culture shows, TDC, performances, et cetera, that meet the following criteria: 1. The event must be held on campus. 2. The event must be sponsored and performed by a TCU‐recognized group. 3. The event must be open to all Tufts students.
This goal was met by making substantial cuts to budgets throughout the TCU, particularly within the Senate’s own budget, as well as by eliminating the budgeted Buffer Fund, New Group Fund, and Capital Expenditure Fund. Under ALBO By‐Law #22, the Senate may use the TCU Surplus to supplement these funds at the discretion of the TCU Treasurer. The FY10 Treasurer and 2009‐2010 Senate should consider this process at the beginning of the Fiscal Year, after having reviewed the FY09 Year End surplus and after having determined an appropriate amount for the Buffer, New Group, and Capital Expenditure Funds. Surplus Funds (*No Senate Approval Required*) The TCU’s financial holdings also include surplus funds, derived from unspent revenue and Student Activities Fee funds from previous fiscal years. The following table displays a summary of all holdover funds for FY 2010. These funds are left over from FY 2009 and all previous fiscal years, and they do not require a Senate vote to take effect for FY 2010. These funds may be spent in accordance with Section 26 of the Treasury Procedures Manual, and ALBO By‐Law #22.
