October 16, 2009 We are the Advocates for Responsible Care; an alliance of physicians, medical care providers, medical and patient organizations, human rights organizations and patients advocates that was formed to assist the Dialysis Clinic patients at Grady Health System, Atlanta, Georgia. We are a strong alliance of over 15 community support groups and over 200 members. We have a large group of volunteers ranging from patient family and church members to public health and law students. They all come together to support our efforts. We took action when Grady Memorial Hospital decided to close its Dialysis Clinic leaving over 51 patients without hope for receiving their vital treatment and without a chance to live. Grady Hospital is the only place where uninsured patients could receive their treatment, a treatment that is essential to keep them alive. Uninsured and foreign patients were urged to either move to a State where their treatment could be covered, return to their countries or get emergency dialysis. None of these options area viable solutions to keep these patients alive. We had received a Temporary Restraining Order from the Fulton County Courts however it has since been declined. There are 38 patients Grady Hospital is providing for with only three months of care at private dialysis centers in Georgia. After three months, the patients will be without life-sustaining treatment. For many patients there is no other option and little hope. Our fund raising efforts will cover the costs of the legal actions, office space and other expenses to help the dialysis patients and their families find long-term dialysis care so we can start to end medical care disparity and cultural incompetency in the health care system. We recently applied to be a non-profit organization to seek funding. There is much work for us to do and we need your help. The patients depend on our caring and generosity so they will no longer suffer the fall out of economic and human rights constraints. We graciously and sincerely ask for your support. ARxC Mission: to help empower individuals to achieve their maximum wellness with a strong voice as health care advocates effectively reducing cultural incompetency and health delivery disparity. Thank you very much for your solidarity and generosity. Many Blessings,
