Title of the Book: Contemporary Moral Problems Seventh Edition by James E. White Book Review Chapter: Friedrich Nietzsche: Master and Slave Morality Quote: “The noble man also helps the unfortunate, but not or scarcely out of pity, but rather from impulse generated by the superabundance of power the noble man honors in himself the powerful one.” What I expect to learn: • What is the meaning of Slave Morality? • What does Slave Morality has to do with the Master Morality? • What is the difference between Master and Slave Morality? Review: Friedrich Nietzsche argues that a healthy society should allow superior individuals to exercise their will power, their drive towards domination and exploitation of the inferior. Friedrich Nietzsche says that the Superior person is from master morality and the weaker person is from the slave morality that these two should be distinguished and be known in a society. That there are different kinds of people and they are being characterized whether they are strong or weak. Friedrich Nietzsche also says that there are evil and good men, selfish and warm hearted people that master and slave morality should have classified by their characteristics.

What I learned: • That master morality is the superior one • That slave morality is the weaker one • That there are different kinds of man Integrative Questions: • What is the difference between Master and Slave Morality • What is the meaning of a noble man and his characteristics • What is the meaning of slave morality and master morality

Review Questions:

1.

How does Nietzsche characterize a good and healthy society? •

Friedrich Nietzsche characterize a good and healthy society is by saying that a good and healthy society should not regard itself as a function either of the kingship or the commonwealth, but as the significant and highest justification thereof that is should accept with a good conscience the sacrifice of a legion of individuals who far sake must be suppressed and reduced to imperfect men to slaves and instruments.

2. What is Nietzsche's view of injury, violence, and exploitation? •

Friedrich Nietzsche view of injury, violence and exploitation is that, he says that here one must think profoundly to the very basis and resist all sentimental weaknesses. Even the organization within which, as was previously supposed the individuals treat each other as equal.

3. Distinguish between master-morality and slave-morality? •

The difference between Master morality and Slave morality is that Slave is the evil man arouses fear; according to the master morality, it is precisely the good man who arouses fear and seeks to arouse it, while the bad man is regarded as the despicable being.

4. Explain the will to Power. •

The will to Power according to Friedrich Nietzsche is that it will Endeavour to grow, to gain around, attract to itself and acquire ascendancy not owing to any morality or immorality but because it lives and because life is precisely will to Power.

Discussion Questions: 1. Some people view Nietzsche's writings as harmful and even dangerous. For example, some have charged Nietzsche with inspiring Nazism. Are these charges justified or not? Why or why not? •

For me Friedrich Nietzsche writing is not harmful or even dangerous. Is because for it is okay to classify the strong and the weak for the people to know so they maybe able to adjust, so that the can get stronger and not be weak.

2. What does it mean to be “a creator of values”? •

A creator of values means that he honors whatever he recognizes in himself such as morality is self glorification.
