Freedom, Love and Death

The representation that I have chosen to depict the concepts of freedom, love, and death is Jesus, the son of God. It is with Him that I have come to grips on what freedom really is. Based on the article by Jean-Paul Sartre, I take full responsibility of my freedom. But human as I am, when I use my freedom to its fullest extent, to my own understanding on what it is, I’m certain that along the way to achieve that freedom, I can hurt myself, or worse hurt the people that I love. Human as I am, I’m bound to prioritize my own needs, my own wants and my own satisfaction. If I’m not satisfied, I tend to do everything that I could to get that particular thing that without knowing, can only give me shot-term pleasure. But if I rely on Him (Jesus), if I give my whole heart to him, if I surrender my life to Him, then the limitation of my freedom would be freedom itself because I’m free to do all the things that God is allowing me to do. I’m free to do everything I want to do without the fear of having to do wicked things because I set Jesus as my role model. He is also my inspiration to love because He’s the only one capable of giving “unconditional love”. He loves me so much that He died for me on the cross, the most shameful and most excruciating death that could ever be experienced during His time. Jesus is the true meaning of love. He died for me even though I’m not worth it. He

suffered so much for me albeit his certainty that I’m still going to sin. He loves me that much. Who on earth can give that same kind of love? Absolutely no one. He is definitely love in its greatest and finest form. He’s also the Lord of death. He has the capability to take my life anytime, anywhere, no matter who I am, no matter what my status in society may be. I agree with Martin Heidegger that death is a possibility of every man and that as soon as I am born, I’m already bound to die. I also agree with him that in accepting death as a possibility, man frees himself. Man frees himself from the illusions of the ‘they’. So I must understand that life here on earth is just short and that I should make every moment count. But I do believe that after-life does exist and is even more important than my life in this world. My life here is just temporary that I should focus more on the life that God has promised to be eternal. The life that is perfect and ideal and what we all fantasize about. The life with our ultimate Creator.
