STEP 1

Foundation Preparation 1.1 Clear and align the ground according to the dimensions in the drawing. 1.2 For the foundation, dig the trenches at least 1 feet wide and 1 feet deep. 1.3 Fill the trenches to ground level with concrete and let cure, or harden. Since curing times vary between brands, read the packaging for recommended curing times. 1.4 Once the concrete has cured, use standard-sized bricks and lay them across the foundation except for separately standing foundations. You will need roughly 300 bricks for this step.

STEP 2

Assemble The Bottom Frame 2.1 Assemble the frame using 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” pressure-treated material. You will need one board cut to 9'; four boards cut to 12'; two boards cut to 8'-7"; two boards cut to 5'-9 1/2"; two boards cut to 8'-3 1/2"; one board cut to 10' ; one board cut to 10'-3 1/2". 2.2 For the corners, use an overlapping joint. Use Node H as a reference on how to make the cuts and how to make the connections. 2.3 Secure the beams into the frame with 2x3" wood screws. 2.4 Using a speed square or carpenter's square, check the corners to make sure they are 90°.

STEP 3

Assemble The Wall Studs 3.1 Using 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" pressure-treated material, cut 26 studs and assemble using the illustrations below as a reference. 3.2 Use 4 1/2 “ x 4 1/2 “ x 1/2 “ corner braces and 8x1” wood screws to secure the corners. 3.3 Make sure the corners are 90° using a carpenter’s square or speed square.

STEP 4

Assemble The Top Frame 4.1 Assemble the frame using 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” pressure-treated material. You will need one board cut to 9' ; four boards cut to 12'; two boards cut to 8'-7"; two boards cut to 5'-9 1/2"; two boards cut to 8'-3 1/2"; one board cut to 10' ; one board cut to 10'-3 1/2"; two boards cut to 8'-5" and assemble using the illustrations below as a reference. 4.2 For the corners, use an overlapping joint. 4.3 Secure the beams to the frame with 2x3" wood screws. 4.4 Use 4 1/2 “ x 4 1/2 “ x 1/2 “ corner braces and 8x1” wood screws to secure two 8'-5" boards. 4.5 Using a speed square or carpenter's square, check the corners to make sure they are 90°.

STEP 5

Assemble Inner Wall Frame 5.1 Using 1 1/2 “ x 3 1/2 “ pressure-treated material, cut seven studs 5'-5" long and construct inner wall frame using the drawing below as a reference. 5.2 Connect the beams with 2x3" wood screws. 5.3 Using a speed square or carpenter's square, check the corners to make sure they are 90°.

STEP 6

Assemble Front Wall Frame 6.1 Using 1 1/2 “ x 3 1/2 “ pressure-treated material, cut six studs 5'-5" long and construct front wall frame using the drawing below as a reference. 6.2 Connect the beams with 2x3" and 2x5" wood screws. 6.3 Using a speed square or carpenter's square, check the corners to make sure they are 90°.

STEP 7

Framing The Back Wall 7.1 Using 1 1/2 “ x 3 1/2 “ pressure-treated material, cut eight studs 3'-10 1/2" long and attach them using the illustration below as a reference. 7.2 Secure the studs with 4x5" wood screws. 7.3 Using 1 1/2 “ x 3 1/2 “ pressure-treated material, cut rough sill and window header and attach them using the illustration below as a reference. 7.4 Secure the header and sill with 4x3" wood screws.

STEP 8

Assemble The Roof Frame 8.1 Use 1 1/2 “ x 5 1/2 “ material to create 26 rafters. Use Node L on page 28 as a reference. 8.2 Use 1 1/2 “ x 3 1/2 “ material to create 11 collar ties and attach to the rafters. 8.3 Use 3/4 “ x 7 1/4 “ material to create the ridge board. 8.4 Connect the beams with 2x3" wood screws.

STEP 9

Assemble The Aviary's Roof 9.1 Using 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" pressure-treated material, cut four rafters and assemble roof using the illustrations below as a reference. 9.2 Using 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" pressure-treated material, cut 19 cross braces and assemble them using the illustrations below as a reference. 9.3 Secure the beams with 4x3" and 4x5" wood screws.

STEP 10

Left Wall Nesting Box Assemble 10.1 Using 1 1/2 “ x 2 1/2 “ material, assemble the frame for the nesting boxes using the illustration below as a guide. Make sure to take note of the 9° slope needed for the roof of the nesting boxes. 10.2 Cover the top and bottom of the nesting boxes with 9/16” plywood and secure with 2” wood screws. 10.3 Prepare and install starter courcer from the pressure-treated lumber with cross section 1/4" x 3/4". Prepare the 1/2" x 6" wood siding boards in the required amount according to the drawing. Cut the shield's top part according to the angle of rafter slope. Assemble siding shields with 2" galvanized nails to the frame beams. 10.4 Prepare wall's trims from the boards with a cross-section of 3/4" x 1"; 3/4" x 2 1/2"; 3/4" x 3". Cut the boards at the required angles along the siding contour for the framing. 10.5 Assemble the door frame using 1 1/2 “ x 2 1/2 “ material according to the illustration. 10.6 Install four 3" door hinges using 6x1" wood screws. Finish the door installation by attaching 4" surface bolt and 6" door pull. 10.7 Cover the roof of the nesting boxes with corrugated roof panels and secure with 1 1/2 “ sheet metal screws and neoprene washers. 10.8 Install nest box assembles with the help of three corner braces and 8x1" wood screws. Connect the box frame and coop's frame by 5" wood screws.

STEP 11

Back Wall Nesting Box Assemble 11.1 Back wall nesting box differs from left wall nesting box only in length. So to assemble it repeat all paragraphs from Step 27 and use the illustrations below as a reference.

STEP 12

Assemble and Install Coop Door 12.1 Assemble the frame from the pressure-treated lumber with cross section 1 1/2 x 3 1/2 " with 2x5" wood screws according to the drawing. 12.2 Install door trims from the pressure-treated lumber with cross section 2 1/2 x 3/4" with 2" wood screws according to the drawing. 12.3 Prepare and install starter courcer from the pressure-treated lumber with cross section 1/4 x 3/4 inch. 12.4 Prepare the 1/2 x 6 inch wood siding boards in the required amount according to the drawing. 12.5 Assemble siding shields with 2" galvanized nails. 12.6 Install three 4" door hinges using 2x1" wood screws. Finish the door installation by attaching 4" surface bolt and 6" door pull.

STEP 13

Window Installation 13.1 Use 1 1/2 “ x 1 1/2 “ pressure-treated material to create the window frame.

STEP 14

Installing Corrugated Roofing 14.1 You will need 260 Sq. Ft. of corrugated roofing panels to cover your coop. 14.2 Fasten the panels with 1 1/2" sheet metal screw with neoprene washer. 14.3 Prepare and install metal roof ridge cap according to the drawing.
