Freak Dancing

Grace Ortega October 7th, 2008 English 101 Mr. Wilcox Freak Dancing: When and Where? Almost every time a new generation comes up with a new dance, it becomes a controversial issue leaving the public divided. In the past, this happened to dances such as the fox-trot tango, and even the waltz. Freak dancing is the dance stirring up controversy today. Some people believe that it is vulgar and sexually oriented while others see it as a simple form of expression like any other type of dance. Many schools have gone as far as officially banning this type of dance and even canceling school dances. Actions such as these have caused much resentment in today's youth. Personally, I believe that freak dancing may be acceptable in certain places such as a club or party and may be inappropriate in other places such as in learning facilities. Since school is a place for learning, activities such as school dances are a privilege. The school administration has the right to decide whether there should be a dance or not and one should respect the rules that come with that privilege. I understand that today's generation is a lot more liberal and feels the need to express themselves in different ways, but they can do this in a more appropriate place such as a club or a party. Each individual has the rite to express themselves and organizations along with facilities have their right to regulate what dances are allowed in order to maintain their appearance and not offend others who are apposed to this. Positive support of a community is important for many places such as a school. If places of learning where to allow freak dancing, there would be a tremendous negative response from the community. It’s only obvious that parents would not feel comfortable with this idea and would question the schools ethics on their other responsibilities. Whether they like it or not a school has to agree with the community whose support they need, their obligations lie with the interests of the parents, it makes sense that it is important not to upset the parents just to indulge the students. Those in support of freak dancing have all the right to do so but at the same time must relies that there are designated places, they are not restricted to attend regulated events. If it is truly a necessity there are alternatives that are available. Some underage freak dancers are at a loss which may move them to challenge these organized events , if they where to look more in depth on the situation it should be clear to them that it is their parents they must come to terms with and not the schools or organizations which are practically run by the parents.
