The Treaty of Versailles 5 W’s

Who??? There was 3 main people involved in the treaty of Versailles they was known as the “big three” which was David Lloyd George, Clemenceau and Woodrow Wilson. Each one of the men represented 3 different countries David Lloyd George for Britain, Clemenceau for France and Woodrow Wilson for U.S.A. David Lloyd George had two different views on how he fought Germany should be treated, seen as he was a politician he had to get the public to like him to succeed in the elections, so he couldn’t seem soft on Germany because he new the public just wanted revenge so he described what they should do by saying “Hang the Kaiser” and “Make Germany Pay”. Clemenceau view on Germany was they should be brought to its knees so she could never start a war again. Woodrow Wilson believed that Germany should be punished in a way that would lead to European reconciliation as for revenged. David Lloyd George (Britain) (France)

What??? The Treaty of Versailles was to decide what punishment Germany was going to get. This was meant to stop war happening again by punishing them bad. 8.5 million people died and 21 million was wounded by Germany. 750,000 French people had there homes destroyed to pieces by bombs. They destroyed coal mines, roads and telegraph poles had been destroyed. The Treaty of Versailles did: Territorial Land was taken from Germany like: Alsace-Lorraine (given to France) Eupen and Malmedy (given to Belguim) Nothern Schleswig (given to Denmark) Hultschin (given to Czechoslovakia) West Prussia, Posen and upper Silesia (given to Poland) The League of nations took part in this and took control over sea’s Military 100,000 men was reduced from the German army and they were no longer allowed. They was not allowed to: Have Tanks Have air force Only allowed 6 naval ships No submarines No Germen soldier was allowed in the West of Rhineland and 50 KMS East of the River Rhine Financial Germany would have to pay a monthly cost to a total of

6.600 million to recover their damage. General League of nations was set up to keep the world in peace. Germany had to take full responsibility for WW1 so therefore had to pay France and Belguim for the damage they left the country in. Germany was left with a bill of 6.6million. When??? The Treaty of Versailles started after World War 1 (WW1) 12th January 1919. It took months to decide what was going to happen to Germany, on the 28th June they decided to sign for The Treaty of Versailles. On the 20th January it was all over it had took about a year to agree. Where??? The Treaty of Versailles meetings took place in Paris the capital of France and that was the place the Treaty of Versailles was signed to say it was finished. Why??? Britain and France both agreed that Germany should have a punishment for killing…… 750,000 British Soldiers and injuring 1,500,000 1,400,000 French Soldiers and injuring 2,500,000 50,000 Belguim Soldiers killed 600,000 Italian Soldiers killed 1,700,000 Russia Soldiers killed 116,000 America Soldiers killed Altogether about 8.5 million people died and 21 million people injured because Germany started the WW1. Germany’s 6.6million went to mainly Belgium to repair all the damage they had caused.
