Raphael Benchabbat Monarchy On Trial Rabbi Pittinsky Monarchy has proven itself to be the strongest most successful form of government employed by the Judean Kingdom. Israel has thrived under the use of a monarchy and it has brought Israel to a “Golden Age”. There are many kings that contributed in bringing Israel to both grand economic and spiritual heights. One king for example, King David started out as a shepherd and became one of Israel’s most notable kings. When David was young he was anointed and sent forward to fight the Philistines. They had set out there champion and David was chosen to fight him. David killed Goliath and the Philistines fled. David ultimately won this war for Israel. David was paraded and loved throughout Israel. This worried Saul who chased him out. When it was safe to return David became king and ruled over Israel. He had conquered Jerusalem and made it his Capitol. He dies at age 70 and his son Shlomo takes over. Shlomo was considered one of the best kings to ever rule Israel. He had done great things that had brought Israel to its highest point. He had good relationships with neighboring kingdoms such as Lebanon who help Shlomo build his greatest achievement, the first Beit Hamikdash. With the cedar trees supplied to him by Lebanon Shlomo built the first temple. Shlomo brought Israel’s spirituality to new heights. Shlomo, like his father proves that monarchy is the ideal government system for Israel.
