DOUBLES From Page 3 said. “It gave them something to work towards as juniors and now seniors. It was a good experience for them and I think the lessons they learned have transferred.” Butler also upgraded the level of competition this season in order to give Baker and Mueller the best prepa-

ration for the tournament season. “Everything this season has been building towards this,” Butler said. “I made the schedule more difficult to challenge and pressure them preparing for the tournament. They have responded with excellent seasons.” The girls got a taste of the state tournament last season. Their dream is so close to becoming a reality. One might think the pressure could be stifling. Not for this pair of best friends.

“We both love tennis and it just comes naturally to us,” Baker said. “As sophomores we made districts and that helped us so much last year at districts. We knew what to expect and there was no pressure. Hopefully being at state last year will work the same for us this year.” Mueller believes everything they have been through together has prepared for this opportunity. “Of course there is always some

pressure but it is pressure we can handle,” Mueller said. “We know what to expect and we are better prepared.” Win or lose however, Baker and Mueller have enjoyed taking the journey together. “Emily is my best friend,” Baker said. “When I have a bad day she picks me up and I do the same for her. We help each other in everything. Doing this with her has made everything more special.”
