Cruz, Arman Bryan Benjamin V. Section A 1. How was the movie impacted/ influenced? The movie shows the discrimination and lack of knowledge regarding homosexual and the disease HIV/AIDS during those times and how devastating it can be to the people who was infected by it. 2. What stood out for you as you watched the movie? What stood out for me as I watched the movie is that how a lack knowledge in something can create fear. The fear of something we don’t understand was very seen in the movie, with his own lawyer Atty. Miller. He didn’t know how HIV/AIDS can be transmitted from person to person so he fears getting close and accepting the case at first. 3. Identify one belief of yours that was (a) challenged (b) strengthened / affirmed by watching this movie? a. I was challenged by how Atty. Miller even with own homophobic tendencies was able accept and then properly do his job as lawyer to defend his client despite him being a homosexual. b & c. I was really happy to see the movie that despite being gay, Beckett was accepted by his family throughout his ordeal with the disease and the trial. It really shows how family support can help you during difficult times. And how atty. Miller performed his duty as lawyer despite his personal problems with homosexual can be also commended and can be likened to the Hippocratic oath to serve all people. 4. If you are the attending physician, what will you do differently to the patient and families experiencing the illness? As a doctor I’ll try my best to perform my duty in treating the illness. Informing the patient of the illness, what choices he/she has, and what the best course of action to be taken. Next is that how to get support from the people closes to you like the family. Intervention from a psychological perspective can be used to alleviate mental effects of the illness to the people who is sick and the people around him.
