Background
Workshop Program Wednesday 26th November 2008
In the next years, the global development in the area of energy supply will show a continuously rising need of energy - especially the development of emerging nations (e. g. China, India, South Africa and Brazil) have to be considered in this context. According to the International Energy Agency the substitution or new erection of approximately 3500GWpower plant capacity is necessary for covering this global need until the year 2030. Regarding this background the involvement at an early time of the above mentioned countries in research and development of low carbon dioxide power plant technology is urgently necessary. In the framework of the hereby proposed workshop, low carbon dioxide power plant technology will be presented by the German experts. Furthermore, precise connection factors should be established for the future cooperation in the implementation of this technology in South Africa. The conference programme is aimed at know-howtransfer and the utilisation of the low carbon dioxide power plant technologies offers disti guished future perspectives for all participants. The status report of the Federal Government of April, 3rd 2006 declares: “German power plant technology is on top. This leading position ensures a considerably share of the global increasing world market for German manufacturers. Thereby it is the base for highly qualified jobs.” The purpose of the Workshop is, by drawing upon the experience of international workers in the field to: (a) develop human capacity in SouthAfrica (b) develop the framework for a Strategy/Business Plan for the South African Centre for Carbon Capture and Storage (c) networking of SouthAfrican and German academics with a view to co-operative projects and capacity building (d) extend the cooperation activities with other countries like Brazil. The organisation committee invites you to attend the workshop “Introduction and application of low carbon dioxide power plant technologies in South Africa”. We are pleased to welcome the German and Brazilian delegation to South Africa.
