Firewater Demand Basis The firewater system shall be designed to supply the quantity of water required for the single largest fire scenario (fire zone). Fire water demand (m3/hr.) = Surface Area (m2) x Application Rate (l/min/m2) Application Rate according to NFPA 15 Vessel – 10.2 l/min/m2 Package – 10.2 l/min/m2 Pumps – 20.4 l/min/m2 Compressors – 20.4 l/min/m2 Surface Area Calculation Horizontal Vessel = πDL + 0.75πD2 (Horizontal vessel at 75% liquid filled) Vertical Vessel = πDH + 0.5πD2 (Vertical vessel at 50% liquid filled) Package = 75% of Surface Area = 0.75 (L X D)
D = Diameter L = Length H = Height
