FIRE PROTECTION FACTS: → Fire protection for the Hanwell LSD is provided by the Fredericton Fire Dept. and the Kingsclear Fire Dept. → The Fredericton Fire Dept. is the primary responder from the city limits to just before Cobblestone. Kingsclear Fire Dept. is the primary responder for Cobblestone Estates and the remainder of the LSD. → In 2002, the Fredericton Fire Dept. responded to 16 calls, 4 of which were fires. In 2003, they responded to 14 calls, 6 of them were fires. → In 2006 the Hanwell LSD paid a total of $275, 305 for fire protection. In comparison

New Maryland paid approximately $310,000 for fire protection. → The nearest fire hydrants are located in the vicinity of Bishop Dr. → The greatest concern is the need for a good reliable water supply for fire suppression. The Hanwell LSDAC is currently looking at the feasibility of dry hydrants. → The Hanwell LSDAC met with the New Maryland Fire Chief, Harry Farrell, regarding fire protection. Chief Farrell agreed that the main concern for the Hanwell LSD was the lack of a good water supply. Concern was also expressed over our large industrial base. They did not feel that they had the necessary equipment to deal with an industrial fire. → A fire protection analysis was originally requested in April 2004. To date the LSDAC has not received one.
