The company   



  

FedEx Corp. was formed in the year 1973. Built itself on the principles of express delivery service. Has a wide portfolio of transportation, e-commerce and business services. Ranked 3rd amongst the 373 best companies to work for in india. Awarded the special category award for Best Company for Leadership Development. People service profit is the essence of the organization.

History 

Established its operations in 1973.

 

In 1978 Federal Express becomes publicly held and quoted on the New York Stock Exchange with the ticker symbol FDX.

 

In 1981 Federal Express begins international delivery with services to Canada

 

In 1984 The first PC-based automated shipping system, later named FedEx PowerShip®, is introduced, and is now offered in 160 countries.

   

In 1991 Federal Express officially adopts “FedEx” as its brand and launches the slogan ‘The World on Time’.

In 1995 it launches AsiaOne network connecting 11 major Asian commercial and financial centres with overnight delivery.



In 1998 FedEx acquires Caliber System, Inc., creating FDX Corp., a US $16 billion global transportation and logistics powerhouse.



In January 2000 it was renamed as FedEx express in order to integrate the portfolio of services.



Caliber logistics and caliber technology were combined to form Fed Ex Global Logistics.

In June 2000 a new subsidiary named FedEx corporate services was formed to centralize the marketing, customer service and information, technology support activities.

 



February 2000, FedEx Corp. acquired Tower Group International, a leader in the business of international logistics and trade information technology

 



In 2006, FedEx Corp. acquired ANC Holdings Limited, a United Kingdom domestic express transporation company.



In 2007,acquired the Indian Express’s Prakash Air Freight pvt.ltd





FedEx-as a service provider 

FedEx services coordinates sales, marketing, information technology, customer service, and worldwide supply chain services support for the global FedEx brand.



It provides e-commerce services, customer contact services and other corporation’s professional services.



Fedex through FedEx office provides document mgmt services to all of its customers.

FedEx global supply chain services provides transportation and logistics management, consulting services and other customized supply chain solutions so customers.



FedEx customer information services aligns customer contact centers, worldwide revenue operations, claims, trace and package engineering within FedEx’s professional services company.



Launched FedEx international economy service in India for the customers who require cost efficiency & reliability in shipping.

Service strategies-over the years 

In 1979 it opened the first regional Automated Call Centre to provide real time tracking of the packages & to manage people,weather conditions & vehicles.



In 1980 Digitally assisted dispatch system to coordinate oncall pickups for customers.



In 1991 Express Freighter is introduced to provide overnight delivery between Europe, U.S & Asia.



In 1993 introduction of Tracking Software which enables customers to track & trace their packages from their own workplace.

In 1994 launches the FedEx.com to offer online package status tracking, enabling customers to conduct business via the Internet.



Allows customers to process shipments online with Fedex interNetship.



In 1997 Launches an around the world flight to reduce the transit times from Europe to Middle east, Indian sub continent & Asia.



First major carrier to introduce a single tarrif between certain countries in Europe.

in 2001 public private alliance between the company & U.S postal service takes place after which it places FedEx Drop Boxes at post offices nationwide.



In 2002 launches Fed ex insight for customers to view the status & contents of incoming & out going shipments while in transit.



Acquisition of Kinko’s Inc in 2004 enables the corp. to provide document mgmt services to all its customers and to broaden its reach towards them.

CSR initiatives 

plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its aircraft fleet by 2020. since 2005 it has reduced carbon dioxide by 3.7% per available tone mile. It has pioneered the development of commercial hybrid electric vehicle for its use. It has invested in sustainable facilities too including solar powered hubs in many countries. It extends its resources & networks in the areas of health, safety & education.(donations in 2008 totalled 1.1% of the pretax profits)

 
