Steer the Course to Success By Dan Norman Chief Operations Officer

expanded our operations in many directions. We have added new leaders in every market, and we have a solid plan for growth and success. We’ve added great new products like Mistica and Dr. Ann de Wees Allen’s revolutionary Encode to ensure our position as the most innovative natural health company in the world.

Synergy WorldWide very road has potholes, and every path has obstacles. No matter who you are, no matter what you do or where you go, you’ll have to face challenges and overcome problems. Success in life and the measure of our worth doesn’t come from avoiding problems—it comes from how we react to adversity and deal with difficulties.

E

When plans go awry and things don’t go your way, it’s easy to throw up your hands and give up. But raising the white flag is the mark of a quitter. Those who triumph in the end—the true champions—are those who pick themselves up off the floor and continue on until victory is achieved. At Synergy, we’re fighting every day to make the company stronger, better, and more successful. We’re fighting to find solutions to the inevitable problems of a growing company, and we’re taking on all comers to give our talented distributors the tools they need to thrive and prosper. During the past year, we opened numerous markets and

Distributors can prepare themselves for success in many ways. One important method that I strongly recommend is to attend the regional events and take advantage of the opportunity to network with fellow distributors and Synergy executives. At each regional event you’ll have the opportunity to hear a variety of guest speakers who will offer tips and tricks on building your business, understanding the compensation plan, and recruiting for your downline. You’ll also have a chance to meet gifted medical experts like Dr. Allen and Dr. Jack Pfeifer and reap the benefits of their vast knowledge about Synergy products. Regionals are your best opportunity to make the most of your time and maximize your success. I look forward to the coming year with tremendous optimism and hope. I know the road will not always be smooth, but I have complete confidence that Synergy’s management team and talented group of distributors can steer the company to the ultimate goal of becoming the most successful network marketing company in the world. I’m eager to meet as many of you as I can in the coming months, and I wish each of you happiness and good luck for the rest of 2006.

Chanida & Nat Puranaputra I’m grateful to be part of Synergy. I appreciate Dan and his vision, and I thank Keith Halls for his leadership and for bringing me here. Santa Monica, California Like a pearl of the orient, Chanida Puranaputra sparkles with inner light and outer beauty. Her grace, charm, and love of people shine through everything she does. Combine these personal qualities with great business skills and complete belief in Synergy and everything the company stands for, and you have the perfect description of the quintessential Pearl Executive. hanida knew Synergy was the answer to all her dreams the instant old friend Keith Halls introduced her to the company. “It was exactly what I had been waiting for,” Chanida says. “The five key factors—strong company, unique products, perfect timing, favorable marketing trends, and proven compensation plan—showed that Synergy offered a historic opportunity for success.”

C

Chanida got to work immediately and started a business in Thailand, called the Best Group, even before an official office

was opened. When Synergy launched the Thailand office in June 2003, Dan Higginson gave it the title of “Bridge to the Wo r l d .” C h a n i d a w a s v e r y impressed with the honor and took on the task as a personal challenge to help fulfill Dan’s dream of success in Asia. “I wanted to do everything I could to realize the vision in Thailand and not disappoint the company,” Chanida says. With hard work and dedication, she now has thriving organizations in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, and Aus-

tralia. She has high hopes for all the Asian markets because people there are hungry for real opportunity. “These people will put their heart and soul into the business,” Chanida says. “They are hard working and full of energy.” Chanida’s insights into what it takes to succeed in Synergy are well worth listening to. More than anything, she firmly believes that success in Synergy starts from belief. “When you have a high level of belief, nothing can stop you,” she says. “You can gain belief in many ways. For me, learning about the five key factors, and in particular the fabulous MegaMatch plan, made me believe in the company.” To b u i l d a n o r g a n i z a t i o n , Chanida first recommends te a c h in g eve r yon e in your downline the importance of learning about the products and using them every day. This

builds belief and motivation because team members will find out how great the products are and realize they can’t do without them. The next step is to get all of your people on Autoship. “If you have everyone in your downline on Autoship, you can rely on people using the products to keeps things going forward,” Chanida says. “Business can come and go, but if people buy products, your business stays strong.” Chanida attributes the success of the Best Group to the importance every member of the organization places on a weekly activity called “8-5-3-1.” Here’s how Chanida describes it: “First, you must make eight appointments a week,” she says. “Out of those eight, you will probably only meet with five people and have a chance to tell them about (Continued on page 11)

The Glycemic Index The Key Code to Obesity and Diabetes By Dr. Ann de Wees Allen Chief of Biomedical Research Glycemic Research Institute

Part V: In this article I’ll look at the role of the glycemic index in cancer, birth defects, sexual function, and male vertex baldness. I’ll also examine the clinical benefits of a low glycemic lifestyle. A growing body of clinical evidence has shown that ingestion of high glycemic foods increases risk of cancer in humans. According to researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a diet high in high glycemic foods, such as potatoes, rice, and white bread can increase the risk of pancreatic cancer in women who are overweight and sedentary. r. Charles Fuchs of DanaFarber Cancer Institute states, “Our findings add to the growing body of evidence that suggests insulin may have a role in the development of pancreatic cancer.” Insulin is over-elevated by consuming high glycemic foods, snacks, and drinks. Pancreatic cancer is typically highly aggressive, with a 4 percent survival rate five years after diagnosis.

D

Researchers focused on foods that raise blood glucose levels and reasoned that if insulin

fuels the growth of pancreatic cancer, then high glycemic foods and diets that trigger large amounts of insulin should be associated with a greater occurrence of the disease. The study revealed that women who had high glycemic loads were 53 per cent more likely to develop pancreatic cancer than those with low glycemic loads. Colorectal and Breast Cancer In the 2004 February issue of the Journal of the National Cancer

Institute, researchers reported that diets with high glycemic loads could increase the risk of colorectal cancer. The researchers concluded that diets with a high glycemic load could increase cancer risk by overstimulating insulin and exacerbating C-reactive protein. Researchers have also identified the precise mechanism by which high glycemic foods (foods that stimulate adipose tissue fat stor-

age) increase risk of breast cancer. After menopause, breast cancer risk increases exponentially. Following menopause, the ovaries stop making the female hormone estrogen, which is a “fuel” that promotes breast cancer. This would indicate that breast cancer rates decrease after menopause, but the opposite occurs. During and after menopause, the adrenal glands continue to produce small amounts of a (Continued on page 7)

High glycemic Larginine formulas are those that contain sucrose, maltodextrins,

The degree of acute hyperglycemic (high blood glucose) and hyperinsulinemic responses to dietary carbohydrates is primarily dependent on the glycemic index and glycemic load (2). Some Other Factors Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels) is commonly manifested in cancer patients (1). High glycemic foods, sugars, and carbohydrates that elevate blood glucose are strongly associated with the risk of cancer (1) ( 2 0 0 5 ) . Other Health Benefits Hormonal interaction caused by hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) has recently been linked to male vertex balding (2). Clinical Benefits of a Low Glycemic Lifestyle Clinical studies have shown that low glycemic foods, drinks, and nutraceuticals are beneficial to humans. Here are some quotes from various medical publications. Dr. David Ludwig stated, “Based on our results, and several dozen other clinical trials and epidemiological studies, I would recommend eating foods with a low glycemic index.” The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, May 2005. “Clinical use of glycemic index

as a qualitative guide to food selection would seem prudent in view of the preponderance of evidence suggesting benefit and absence of adverse effects.” The Journal of the American Medical Association (AMA) May 8, 2002. A 2004 study in Lancet showed that, “Low Glycemic diets led to weight loss, reduced body fat, and reduction of risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.” The clinically proven benefits of low glycemic diets, foods, and drinks have been determined as: • Decrease in total fat mass • Increase in lean body mass without loss of muscle mass/muscle tissue • Lower postprandial plasma glucose and insulin profiles • Lower plasma triacylglycerol • Decreased Lipoprotein Lipase • Decreased hormone-sensitive lipase mRNA in subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue (fat) Research has conclusively proven that controlling the glycemic index of foods and drinks ingested allows for control over food-driven fat storage, insulin stimulation, reactive hypoglycemia, as well as exacerbation and development of obesity, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. Janice Wallens If you can’t make it in Synergy, you can’t make it anywhere. Richardson, Texas Veteran businesswoman and successful Synergy distributor Janice Wallens knows her stuff. From hair salons to real estate to construction companies, Janice has a lifetime of experience working hard to realize the American dream of business success and personal fulfillment. anice’s background in such a wide variety of service-oriented occupations, including several multilevel marketing companies, has been a perfect preparation for her Synergy career. “The training I received from my other MLM experiences was tremendous,” Janice says. “I have learned a great deal about goal setting, sales and marketing, and dealing with people.”

J

Foremost among those lessons was the critical importance of making sure that any goal you set must be specific and have a date attached to it. “If it’s in your head, it’s a wish, if it’s on paper, it’s a goal,” Janice says. “You have to put a date on your goals to make them realistic.” Another mistake people often make in goal setting is to fail to plan on how to attain their goals. “You’ve got to plan on how to get to your destination,” Janice says. “People will often

set grandiose goals, but not r e a l l y t h i n k a b o u t h ow t o achieve them. Then, they give up in frustration because they haven’t accomplished what they set out to do. You’ve got to take your business seriously. Many people will spend more time planning a two-week vacation than they will the rest of their life. If they would put more thought into their goal planning, goal setting, and a plan of action with a date, then they could achieve something important.” Synergy’s health-enhancing products brought Janice to Synergy. “I have always been very healthy until mid-2003 when suddenly I had absolutely no energy, could not sleep, and developed many other unpleasant symptoms. About that time, my good friend Eddie Freeman called me to share the Synergy WorldWide business opportunity. When I told him about my health issues, he suggested I

take Synergy’s VitaPak and Germanium Plus products. Desperate to regain my health and my life, I agreed. After using the products for only two weeks, I began feeling much better with enough energy to get back in the gym, something I had not been able to do for more than a year.” Shortly after, Janice joined Synergy, and she’s pursued this opportunity with the same passionate commitment that she applies to every aspect of her life. For Janice, success in Syn-

ergy requires the courage to follow your dreams with every ounce of energy you can summon up. For those just starting out, Janice advises them to embrace Synergy’s message and believe that great things can happen. “You must absorb the company’s culture and dedicate yourself to achieving success. You must believe in yourself, believe in the company, and believe that Synergy is the vehicle that will (Continued on page 12)

SYNERGY WISDOM

Reclaim Your Life with Patience Speed rules in America. Fast food, fast drivers, instant replay, hopped-up technology, and frantic shopping make the American landscape a place of continual frenzy and endless striving. Everything must happen right now, and if it doesn’t, we stamp our feet and complain bitterly. mpatience, or “hurry sickness,” is an epidemic that infects more and more people each day. If you go into a rage at the sight of a traffic jam, push the elevator button repeatedly, or speed away from stop signs, you’re probably suffering from this malady. If you multitask while driving, fume and mutter while waiting in a line, worry constantly about having enough time, or yell “hurry!” at the microwave, you definitely have it.

I

Hard work is a virtue, and we all want to get the most out of each day, but our caffeinated lifestyle can leave us limp with exhaustion and wrung out with stress. The demand for instant gratification doesn’t seem to pay off with instant happiness. In fact, the more we rush, the more irritable we become. If we can’t enjoy what we have, or if we feel the future pressing in on us constantly, what’s the point of all our headlong activity? Ultimately, by worrying about doing more in less time, we actually end up doing less in more time. The truth is that we can accomplish more and have more fun by relaxing a little bit and learning patience. We often think of

patience as a quality we need to trot out only in certain situations, such as when dealing with an unruly child or while standing in a line. But that’s not true. Start by thinking of patience as a quality you can always possess. When you hurry, your energy is dispersed in all directions. Becoming patient allows you to be more centered and focused, more in tune with your body’s rhythms and natural desires. Slow down and live Slowing down isn’t easy. When you’re rewarded all your life for being the fastest, earliest, or first in line, it takes some doing to step back and let events unfold at their own, slower pace. Despite the difficulty, it’s worth the effort. Here are some techniques you can use to begin the process: Look at the world in a new way “If there is a remedy, what is the use of frustration? If there is no remedy, what is

the use of frustration?” These words express how patience can guide us through a world that rarely works the way we want. If you believe some problem in your life has a solution, take steps to remedy the situation. If the situation can’t be changed, accept that fact and live with it. Mental anguish, aggravation, and hurry solve few problems. When you give up control, you gain tranquility. Focus on one thing at a time Mindfulness is at the heart of patience and the key to centering your life. When you juggle several tasks at once, you’re neglecting what you’re doing right now. Learn to train your concentration on the task at hand, inhabit the moment, and put everything else aside.

Three out of the five might show interest, but you’ll probably only sponsor one person. “However, if you do that every week of the year, that’s 52 people you’ve sponsored,” Chanida continues. “If only two of those 52 work hard and become superstars, you’ll be rich. Do this for two years, and your life will completely change!” Anyone who meets Chanida comes away convinced of her love of Synergy and her profound conviction of the company’s great destiny. “I’m grateful to be part of Synergy,” she says. “I appreciate Dan and his vision, and I thank Keith Halls for his leadership and for bringing me here. It’s like a family, with such warmth and concern. Now we’re ready to make a huge wave with our new Encode product. I can’t wait!” Most of all, Chanida thanks God for her good luck and fortunate life. With a supportive family and a great company to be part of, she wants to work hard, then give back and serve God in some way. “Money is good because it enables you to help others,” Chanida says. “I want to have the opportunity to be of some service. I don’t know yet how I’ll do it, but when the time comes, God will show me what He wants.”

Patience (Continued from Page 10)

Step away from technology You don’t always have to be listening to music, talking on your cell phone, watching television, or checking your e-mail. Allow silence to add purity and grace to your life. It is only when your mind and body are calm that your creative inner life can bubble to the surface and give you the ideas and inspiration to make something special of your day. Don’t compare yourself to others Guilt and envy lead to much unnecessary activity and pointless striving. Don’t be

fooled by appearances. The family down the street in the trophy house might seem to embody the American dream, constantly driving to and fro in their big, shiny SUV, but they’re probably deep in debt and have just as many problems as you do. Monitor your body Throughout the day you should step back, take a deep breath, and become aware of your body. If you feel stressed and anxious, sit back and relax every muscle. You’ll immediately become refreshed and more alert. Don’t fall for the myth that time is limited. The stream of time is endless, and you have enough of it to live a full, rich life. The more patient you are, the more the world opens up and gives you your heart’s desire. By slowing down the juggernaut of daily life, you can develop inner peace, feel more connected, and become more aware of the sweet gifts that lie before you.
