Gentle Action

To be released October 25, 2008, by Pari Publishing The message of Gentle Action is that traditional forms of action (aid programs, government policies, social interventions, etc) can at times be ineffective or even socially disruptive. The book proposes a radically new approach of “working from within” a system in newer, gentler and more intelligent ways. It discusses how business can be creatively reorganized, emphasizes the importance of trust in society and provides a number of practical examples of Gentle Action.

Author’s Biography

F. David Peat was born in Liverpool and obtained his PhD at Liverpool University before moving to Canada where he carried out research in theoretical physics at Queen’s University, Kingston and the National Research Council of Canada. During a sabbatical year in 1971 he began a collaborative relationship with David Bohm, which lasted until the latter’s death. In addition to his work in theoretical physics, Peat has organized dialogue circles between Native Americans and Western Scientists, as well as between artists and scientists. In 1979 Peat turned to writing and is now author of over twenty books that explore ideas in science and their implications for society at large. Peat has also written several plays for radio and theater and was responsible for a twenty one-hour radio series on the birth of modern physics. He is a fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, a board member of Albert Schweitzer College and an Adjunct Professor at California Institute of Integral Studies In 1996 Peat moved to Italy where he set up a cultural center, the Pari Center for New Learning, in the medieval village of Pari to run conferences, courses, research projects, and to provide a retreat for artists, writers and thinkers. The Center’s maxim “The future has an ancient heart” is taken from the writings of Carlo Levi. The Center’s main focus is on science, art, community and the sacred. www.fdavidpeat.com www.paricenter.com
