Evaluation of the unit of inquiry

Here are some of the activities we have done so far: •

Media – brainstorming



KWL chart (writing what we knew and what we wanted to know)



Media timeline (reading and discussing about media in time)



Media -user-friendly chart (identifying media sources and how accessible they are)



Media –questionnaire followed by making graph bar



Reading and comparing points of view (e.g. “Humpty Dumpty- A bad accident” vs. “Humpty Dumpty –He was pushed!”



Writing news articles (“Storyland”, “Herb, the Verb”, “Be the Reporter!” etc.)



Media facts (reading and discussing)

Bias

image bias (deconstructing images to see how they affect message - e.g. “Now You See It, Now You Don’t”)

word choice bias (writing headlines and captions based on a given event or picture to see how balanced or biased an article/headline can be)

Matching pictures with appropriate headlines or articles Stereotyping -

role-play (teacher, villain, grandparents; boys vs. girls)
